PGPD Suspect in Landover Fatal Shooting in Custody

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and charged a suspect in connection with a recent fatal shooting in Landover. The suspect is 23-year-old Lawrence Fox Jr. of Hyattsville. He’s charged with the murder of 34-year-old Jakel Stone of Bowie.



On August 31, 2024, at approximately 7:40 pm, officers responded to the 6900 block of Hawthorne Street for a shooting. Officers located Stone in a parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later.



The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect shot the victim during a dispute.



Fox is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. On Tuesday, the PGPD’s Fugitive Unit, with the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department and the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located him and took him into custody in Washington, DC. He remains there on a no-bond status awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
