Police Shooting of Mother and Infant Exposes a City’s Racial Tension

"LIMA, Ohio — The air of Southside is foul-smelling and thick, filled with fumes from an oil refinery and diesel smoke from a train yard, with talk of riot and recrimination, and with angry questions: Why is Tarika Wilson dead? Why did the police shoot her baby?

Residents of Lima, Ohio, posted a sign at the house where Ms. Wilson, 26, was killed and her 14-month-old son was injured.

“This thing just stinks to high heaven, and the police know it,” said Jason Upthegrove, president of the Lima chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. “We’re not asking for answers anymore. We’re demanding them.”

Some facts are known. A SWAT team arrived at Ms. Wilson’s rented house in the Southside neighborhood early in the evening of Jan. 4 to arrest her companion, Anthony Terry, on suspicion of drug dealing, said Greg Garlock, Lima’s police chief. Officers bashed in the front door and entered with guns drawn, said neighbors who saw the raid.

Moments later, the police opened fire, killing Ms. Wilson, 26, and wounding her 14-month-old son, Sincere, Chief Garlock said."

Tarika Wilson had six children, ages 8 to 1. They were fathered by five men, all of whom dealt drugs, said Darla Jennings, Ms. Wilson’s mother. But Ms. Wilson never took drugs nor allowed them to be sold from her house as far as I know, said Tania Wilson, her sister accompanied by her tort lawyer.

How is this a race thing?? My heart goes out to her family and friends. I know of a similar thing that happened in So. Md. No one was hurt, just very scared. I was very angry when this happened. It took a while but I finally realized that the police have a job to do. I wish she would have gotten away from this creap, maybe she would be alive today! Only the SWAT Team knows what really happened in that house. I have always told my own kids that you are guilty by association. Choose your friends and partners very carefully.

A picture of domestic bliss interrupted by the honky police department.

26 years old, 6 kids who dont know who their father's are, If she had lived another 5 years she would have had her own football team.

That is no excuse for tearing down her door and shooting ,she and her child, but I need more information before I can fault the police.

Her lifestyle placed she and her children at risk. We dont know what happened when the shooting started.

Typical NHBOY blather

Besides combing the internet for some good links NHBOY never seems to pass up the opportunity to slander the police by scandouldous taser and shooting stories. Sadly our society/goverment has created a horrible monster. It's called welfare. 6 kids with 5 fathers all of whom dealt drugs according to the mother. She survived, we are led to believe, on welfare and other goverment handouts. Now pardon me for not feeling sorry for this tradgedy. She enabled these drug dealers and her mother defends her because she was not a drug "user" and did not let the drug deals go down at the home. How very noble a character this woman was. We should be nominating her for citizen of the year and parent as well. Sadly I don't think we will ever be able to undue the damage this welfare monster has created. But it will clear up where on the political spectrum NHBOY falls......
