Charles Co. System hosting first CTE Career Fair for students

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is hosting its first Career Fair on Saturday, April 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Point High School in Waldorf. Sponsored by the CCPS Office of Career and Technology Education (CTE), the fair will feature representatives from more than 30 local agencies, military branches, potential employers and businesses. The fair is free and open to the public.

CCPS encourages high school students to attend and explore opportunities available to them after high school. Representatives on site may conduct hiring interviews; attendees should dress professionally and bring a current resume. Fields of focus at the fair include trades such as construction, cosmetology, criminal justice, electrical, finance, medical field, plumbing and welding. Recruiters with the U.S. military are set to attend and representatives from the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and the University of Maryland will be on site.

Student attendees can also inquire with employers such as the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center and SMECO about available apprenticeship programs. Additionally, local union representatives from local building and trades associations, the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee and the Center for Trades and Energy Training from CSM will participate.

The goal of the fair is to provide CCPS students with another opportunity to learn about future career possibilities, use interview skills, research job availabilities and explore trades. North Point is located at 2500 Davis Road.
