I got clobbered by some virus or trojan or something a few weeks ago, couldn't get the last little bit of it out. Everytime I opened a new web page or refreshed, I'd get a stupid pop-up. So, today was the day to wipe and reinstall. Everything went great, I restored the system off the Recovery partition and had a factory release system up in no time. Got my anti-virus and firewall install, all my products, looking good! Restored all my data, restored my email profile for Thunderbird so it looks just like it used to, all files restored. Then it took from 1pm to now (6:15) to de-install all the bloatware and load all the required Microsoft patches. Holy Mackerel!!! Almost 100 patches since the release of XP SP2! You figure they'd just make an SP3 and save a bunch of time and effort....
Well, anyway, I got my PC back to normal. Just thought I'd share my trials and tribulations of the day....
