Dear fellow dog owners,

If your pup happens to escape more than once in it's life, please put a tag on it. And no, the Well Pet Clinic tag is NOT sufficient. I'm tired of finding people's obviously lost/escaped dogs in my front yard and coaxing them to come closer only to find that I have no idea who to give 'em back to. With no tag, I let them roam free because odds are they'll make it home better that way (they know where the food's at.)

However, if you're smart enough to tag the animal, I will gladly stick in my fenced back yard with food and water and call you to come retrieve it. If it's late, or you're out of town, I'll even let it stay in the house until you can come get it.

Tired of finding untagged dogs,

-Chain

BTW, any non-tagging knuckleheads in The Park missing a collie? Neighbor stopped by with it and I'd like to return it to it's owner. Rabies shot tag is from the Well Pet Clinic and dated '05.

Well if most dogs are anything like my doofus knuckleheaded standard poodle, they like to lose their tags on a regular basis! I give up, going to get his butt microchipped, let's see him lose that!

Ummm.... I'd chalk it up to that, IF IT DIDN'T have it's collar on, WITH the rabies tag.

Having dogs that back out of collars are one thing, not tagging your dog is another.

My dog is micro-chipped and has 3 tags on her! One is a name tag with her name and our phone #, second is AKC tag with number to call so they can track us down, and third is from "Home Again" with same type of info like the AKC. The one time she did get out of our fence (she jumped up and accidently unlocked the gate) she went up to our front door and laid on the porch. She didn't know that she could have run free. Our neighbor saw her get out and was about to go running after her until she saw her go up on our porch. She knows that's the way to get back inside. We now have bungee cords at both gates so accidents won't happen again.

Recently I found a loose dog chasing a motorcycle down the road. She just wanted someone to play with! She had a Petfinders tag on her collar. I thought for sure I'd spend a good hour on the phone going through menus but I got a real person right away and was quickly patched to the owner. Dog was picked up in short order. I had my doubts about the service but it worked and worked well!

Can you call the well pet clinic and give them the rabies tag number? I had to do that many times with dogs I find, and the place that gave the rabies shots always contact the owners for me (I guess its a privacy thing, becuase they never give me the owners information), but it works each time.

Scooter has a 2 tags: his rabies and an ID tag with my address and phone number, and the phone number of Avid and his microchip #.

I heard that if you put the pet's name on the tag, people are more likely to keep the pet if they find it. I never wanted to risk it, so I leave his name off.

I put someone on that task this morning. But come on people, if you want your dog back, don't make it any more complicated than it has to be.

I am not quite sure I understood your last answer to me, but, my dog had his rabies tag on along with his name tag that had our phone numbers on it. He loses his tags on a regular basis. It doesn't matter if I take the collar off, if I forget one time to take it off they get lost. I can't figure out what in the world that dog does to get those tags off! They are on there with that "S" hook thing and that sucker is hard to bend. You've got me, weird dog! :duh:

It's not that complicated. Your dog loses his stuff = not a problem, dogs do that all the time.

This dog never had a tag. How do I know? Collar is on and the rabies tag is on. So, nothing has fallen off unless they put the tag on separately.

To avoid the jingle of tags, we got an embroidered collar from Orvis that has the dog's name and my cell phone number on it.

I just saw a puppy walk by across the street, piss on the neighbors bush and stand there. I was about to go grab him when I notice two people walking, apparently he belongs to them. I think they are from the corner house..... you know that one :tantrum
