Targeted Assistance Title I program- CCPS

Youngest (1st grader) just brought home a note saying he was selected to participate in this program in the area of Math. I have never heard about this program through the school nor has his teacher made any comments about him having problems. According to the Pinnacle Internet Viewer feature, his Math grade is an 86 which is listed as Good. Not sure why he's been selected and was surprised that they'd send home this instead of setting up a conference beforehand to discuss this.

Anyone have a kid in this and can enlighten me?

None of my kids are or have been in Title I programs, to my knowledge, but I believe they are selected based on certain criteria.

I don't think it necessarily means he is struggling with math, maybe someone just thinks he could use an extra boost. I honestly don't know but I think it would be best to call Mrs. Turlington or Dr. Vogel and they'd be glad to help you more.

The services are free and if offered to my children I would be thankful for the extra help.

It probably means that the teacher sees areas where you child may be having issues and/or they see possible future issues....they don't like to see kids counting on their fingers any more and maybe he is or something like that

Zman(7th grade) has been in something like this through his IEP since 1st grade and he is excelling(8th-9th grade level) in math and science

I am going to set up a conference to discuss this. Thanks for the insight.

By the way it WAS talked about in great detail at Open House and also there were papers sent home at the start of the school year.

The administration said the students would recieve the services during school hours. That's all I can remember.

My daughter had title 1 and was not getting bad grades. It's only offered to 1st and 2nd grades (at the time, could have changed) but it was great. They are afforded more one on one attention (extra teacher) to strengthen skills they may be lacking, it's usually done in the classrom. He was probably chosen because his benchmark scores are not were they want them to be.

86 is good, but i think the teachers want to have the higher percentage of their students pushing high 90's. He is more than likely doing VERY WELL in science (??) and they are offering this to help boost to his math to the same level of proficiency, to keep him/get him on track for honors math/science later...4th grade. I would take advantage of anything extra they are offering. they wont offer honors science if the math isnt at the same level. I say go for it and see what can come from it :) best of luck to you both :)

How long does the class last? A month or two?
