Did you miss the part where she did ask her? It was the 1st post. Sure wish people would read the thread before commenting. :cds:

I did not read every single page. I read the two pages. She said she asked her when she saw her in the mall. She clearly was not happy with the answer she got there for she should of had a sit down talk with her about her concerns. Did that happen? Did the op have another talk with her about this? If she did and still did not like the answers she got then going to the school board or what ever would be the next step.

Have you maybe thought she has a medical excuse and does not feel comfortable talking to you about it? Why not just go straight to her like an adult and ask her why she's missing so many days? If your so concerned about your child's education then why not talk to her instead of blasting it on here? I think calling the school board or what ever is a little over board since you have not talked to the teacher herself. JMO!
Blasting her on here? She has yet to mention the teacher's name or even the school's name!

Thank you Twin. I used the link that was provided to "prove me wrong" when in fact it proved me right. :diva:
No, it did not prove you correct.

Your claim was that teachers are paid for their time off over the summer. The information, in the link, says otherwise. Teachers are paid for 190 duty days which do not occur during the summer. Teachers paychecks are spread out throughout the year. Some school systems give teachers an option the distribute paychecks during the school year or during the entire year. SMCPS used to have this option. At this point, paychecks for all teachers are spread out through the year, sort of like SMECO's even monthly payment plan.

All your Women's Studies, Art History and Philosophy majors would/should sub.
:yikes:

I would rather a high school graduate as a sub than a college graduate with one of those degrees. Both get the same pay, but one was dumb enough to go to college and major in something with no job good prospects without additional degrees.

Just for covering all of the bases, what's the average number of hours a teacher work? (daily, weekly, annually it doesn't matter)

Ummmm,,,yes it did. They receive $x amount per YEAR whether they work 12, 10 or 3 months. But you keep ignoring the word "annual" in the contract. :buddies:

Nope. You said they get paid for the summer (paid time off). They don't.

The taxpayers are also paying for the entitlement group, are you following up with the social workers?
God I used to hate that argument when we were in the service. You would think they didn't have payroll tax withheld or have to pay income tax.
I though the basic question was, is this teacher abusing the rules or simply working within the rules by taking "sick leave" when she was in fact not ill. It may turn out that as part of a planned retirement she is entitled to burn down sick leave. Since we are talking about expending public funds you have a right to ask the party responsible - in this case the superintendent of schools - to explain.

If the department of social services appears to be wasting money or fraudulently spending money you would ask the executive in charge.

If you think someone is misusing EBT funds, you can call the responsible social service agency.

As a taxpayer you should be able to question elected or appointed officials when you suspect a problem.

How the topic got turned to being paid over the summer is beyond me. I would think that people would understand that teachers are not hourly employees, they are salaried (per anum). Their contract requires 190 days. They are scheduled to work 190 days, how they choose to receive their annual salary only matters to them (because of the way with holdings are calculated their net pay is higher when it's spread over the entire year). There is no added cost to the taxpayer.

Hahaha, delusional much? You just keep posting while others keep proving you wrong. It has been said about 3-5 times now, you still don't get it. :smack:
Hey pervy boy, go read the article. Wait, don't bother, you can't comprehend what you read.

On a side note, did you know this is your month? Yep it's national stalking awareness month. That includes pervs like you who stalk and harass minors. Welcome | National Stalking Awareness Month

Good one... I don't need to read the article I stated my opinion on the matter, it has nothing to do how much they are paid or how it is paid. You on other hand, just don't get it. Like I said, you're delusional boy.
You opinion.... :killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme:killingme

Posting one last time for those who are either slow (FaP) or those who want to split hairs....

Right from the BOE contract with teachers.
B. All employees who work their full contractual year will be paid in twenty-six (26) installments during the year. The annual salary of employees who work less than their full contractual year and whose effective start date is prior to March 1, will be prorated and paid according to the number of available remaining installments. No summer escrow money will be held or paid for employees starting on or after March 1.

Summer!!!!
Per contract, how many hours per year.
My contract language specifies a 7.5 hour workday for 192 days per year (I'm not in St. Mary's). In addition to that, we are required to give extra time monthly for a Faculty meeting, and to stay for various after-school activities as designated by our Principal (some Principals really abuse this).

A.
The “work day” is a day of regular duty. Unless extenuating circumstances
do not allow for such, the start and closing time of the
work day established at each work site shall not be changed without
at least 5 days notice to staff. In the event that a change in start and
closing times creates an undue hardship or has an adverse impact
on a teacher, the teacher may seek an administrative transfer.

B.
The normal work day for professional personnel employed for ten
months shall be 7 1/2 hours inclusive of lunch time. Unless otherwise
agreed this shall be a continuous block of time. The time before and

after school may be scheduled on a more flexible basis.

C.
All professional personnel are expected to devote to their assignments
the time necessary to meet their responsibilities but they will not be
required to “clock in or out” by hours and minutes. A method for

certification of attendance will be developed by the principal with

the review of the Faculty Advisory Council.

However, please note the beginning sentence in letter C. This is the one that requires that we lug all of those student papers home to grade, etc., etc. This is the one that keeps many of us there in the building long after our "contractual" day ends.

If you go look up some of the Labor laws (particularly those regarding breaks, etc.), you will find that teachers are considered an "exempt" group. There are many teachers who cannot get to the bathroom for 4 or more hours straight each day because their class has a late scheduled lunch and we cannot leave the students unsupervised. This is one reason why a number of teachers have health issues with kidneys and other organs. (There's even a name for it -- Teacher bladder.) Just one more of the things we put up with for the honor of teaching your children.

The above information is taken from our most current contract (the one that expired in June 2009). It also includes provision for us to be paid if we have to cover lunch duty but that went by the wayside in the 2009-2010 school year, as did other contract provisions regarding additional pay for earning of higher degrees, etc. In other words, it isn't worth the paper that it's written on.
