Hard-hearted Hannah to the rescue!
How does your adult offspring become an alcoholic without you noticing? Do you just never see them enough to realize they have a problem? Are you just too self-involved to care what's going on? Do you simply feel that, as adults, they're on their own?
How does this work? Because I'm not inclined to give ol' Ted any sympathy at this point.

Me thinks Ted had enough of his son's drug/alcohol abuse and distanced himself.
Or maybe the son drank himself to death because Ted was too busy with his career to give him the love and guidance he needed as a youngster?
Offspring of the rich and famous have a higher incident of drug/alcohol abuse and suicide than their regular-guy counterparts. Excess privilege isn't good for kids, and coupled with a parent who isn't really there all that much, you're looking at a future problem.
NOTE: This may not be the case with the Koppels. I do not know them and have no idea what their family situation is like. But celebrity kid deaths are so common they're a cliche.
Let me clarify: I am not blaming Ted Koppel for his son's death. The son was 40 years old and out of Ted's jurisdiction. BUT, did he not see this coming? I mean, it's got to be pretty bad if the son dies of alcohol poisoning in the apartment of the waiter he drunkenly befriended the night before.
Which brings up my other thought:
Don't take drunk strangers home with you. They die and you have to throw out your mattress because you'll never get the smell out of it.
The waiter person didn't even really seemed to feel that bad for him... all she talked about was HER air mattress and HER not being able to sleep after what happened. And the smell he created![]()
Sheesh!

They didn't even know the guy, why would they care?
Sounds like he was having convulsions. Our bodies don't like it when we chemically abuse ourselves, and this is its way of protesting.Because he's still a human being, just the same as she is :shrug:Although all the "flopping" talk she kept referring to may alude to some other species. I'm still trying to figure the "flopping" thing out, personally.

If I drug some strange drunk home from a bar (which is highly unlikely) and he had the bad manners to die in my bed, I would be highly irate and more concerned about the damage he did than his well-being.
