TeleCheck and Navy Federal Customers

If you are a Navy Federal customer and try to write a check at a store that uses the TeleCheck system, be prepared with another form of payment. I had the pleasure of being humiliated at FoodLion Callaway the other night because my check was declined for no reason, but a number to call was printed on the back of my check. After a couple of frustrating phone calls, the short version is that it's about Navy Federal not being online with TeleCheck, so they couldn't verify the check.
Personally, I almost never write checks anymore, but I happened to have left my cards in my car (so ultimately I got my groceries, but not until I'd been humiliated and held up the line) so I decided on a check. I do have their MVP card, too, so I would've thought FoodLion could have recognized me as a customer that way.
Perhaps other stores that use TeleCheck will have the same problem.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll certainly keep my cards with me. I can't remember the last time I wrote a check in a store.

If your check was declined for no reason the why are you humiliated.

I get bad swipes that says declined and it doen't humiliate me. If the person behind choses to pass judgement like that then shame on them.

Well, I suppose humiliated is a bit of an overstatement, but don't you find it embarrassing when your check is declined? I mean, it's not like the people behind me knew that it wasn't for insufficient funds or being a bad check writer.
Perhaps it's just me.

I understand. I once had my credit card declined because of an electrical storm and the lines were down. I felt :stupid:.

However, in your case, it would have been nice if your bank had let its' customers know what was going on so you weren't put in a situation where you felt uncomfortable and unprepared.

Navy Federal and TeleCheck haven't been friends for a while now.

I also have another problem with Navy Federal as, I can not use my check card for any transaction over $900.

You can get that limit raised. Just call and they'll tell you what to do. I went by the branch and dropped of a written authorization to have the limit raised. taken care of. No problem.

Did that...

Didn't work... They say my spending limit is $2500 on a single transaction.

Needless to say, I switched to BB&T for all my business stuff. If there is a suspicious charge being made (anything over $500), I get a phone call on my cell within 2 minutes to confirm it is me. One of the places I spend a lot of money was placed on the Safe List.

I thought you said it was $900. I can't speak for your stiuation but in my case NavFCU took care of it.

Noooo... any time when I tried making a purchase for significant amount (~$900) on a transaction, the transaction is denied. However, NavyFCU says my spending limit is $2500.

After the 3rd time this happened to me, and I said forget it and switch banks. The last time it happened, I called NavyFCU and was on the phone with them and the transaction was still denied.

Don’t get me wrong, NavyFCU is a decent bank for personal use.
