DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Police are investigating the death of a man who jumped off the 11th floor of a hotel in Daytona Beach.
Mark Zimmerman of Atlantic Beach was terminally ill when he jumped off the balcony just 15 minutes after checking into the hotel, police said. It is not yet known what illness Zimmerman was suffering from, and hotel representatives declined to comment on the incident.
Zimmerman left a note, had eaten a doughnut and drank part of a bottle of water before he plummeted to his death. He landed on top of the hotel's parking garage.
A police report said a security guard told police he saw the 56-year-old man in midair and hitting the parking garage roof.
