Terrible crash at NHRA Phoenix

I saw that one live, while eating dinner. I had the sound muted, so I didn't hear the commentary....sad affair.

It wasn't "live", but I know what you mean. ESPN never airs NHRA live, unless the weather pushes it back.

Thanks. Did they say what might have struck her? I saw the left rear tire go up in the air.

Sure glad they were able to kill the fire - the fuel was leaking below the drivers compartment....

I hope it didn't ruin your orgasmic steak.

I turned away after the car came to rest/the fire crew had put out the flames. The next bit of steak and a sip of wine distracted me.

Wait until you interact with your Ribeye and side dishes tomorrow, you'll see what I mean....:howdy:

Woman struck by debris, injured at NHRA race - ESPN

The guys on Nitromater are saying she died, but there's been no confirmation of that so far.

It's confirmed. She died. How horrible. Antron Brown was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

:boo: to NHRA for not having anything on their website about this incident yet - this was all I saw.

The day got off to a rough start with rain interrupting the first round of Top Fuel, which concluded with a crash involving Antron Brown. Brown was not injured in the accident but the cleanup and subsequent rain delayed action for about two hours.

Typical NHRA, burrying their head in the sand and not addressing the reality of the situation.

Very sad news.

Very diaappointed with the way NHRA has gone the last couple of years to the extent that I very rarely watch anymore..( why watch when I can follow it online and know the outcome before the show is on the air.)

But, I do understant there lack of quick commenting on the situation.
As a party to any future legal issues it is best that they keep there mouths shut until there lawyers tell them otherwise.. JMHO

From the NHRA's website this morning...

NHRA STATEMENT
A woman who was struck by a tire earlier today at the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird International Raceway was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital this evening. The tire became detached from Antron Brown's dragster following an incident during the first round of eliminations. Brown was not injured.

NHRA is investigating the incident. The entire NHRA community is deeply saddened by today's incident and sends its thoughts and prayers to the woman's family and friends.

I wonder what knee-jerk reaction NHRA will have to this one?

Race to 500 feet?

Ban spectators?

Race without tires?

Maybe they will add more catch fencing. A lanyard system added to the wheels might help too. I doubt it stops those massive wheels, but would slow them down.
Both were added in F1 and Indy car racing after wheels departed the cars and killed a couple spectators/safety workers.

But that makes sense Rob, Remember at all times that we are talking about NHRA, where common sense doesn't dictate policy.
