‘Whatever It Takes’: Abbott Says Texas Will Address Colony Ridge At Special Legislative Session Next Month

“Serious concerns have been raised about what’s going on in this Colony Ridge area,” Abbott told Dana Loesch after the radio host asked about The Daily Wire’s investigation into the development. “We’re trying to put together as much information as possible so that I can add this to the special session.”

Abbott told Loesch that he has already issued subpoenas to the developers “to find out what’s going on financially,” and asked the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to launch a new investigation.

“We’re getting all the baseline information so we can find out exactly what we can do and what we must do. Part of it can be using current law enforcement, but part of it may require new laws,” the governor added. “Whatever it takes.”

Abbott’s comments are his harshest to date on the development, which has become a magnet for illegal immigrants flooding the United States due to financing arrangements catered for non-citizens. The development, which is estimated to be roughly 60 square miles and contains tens of thousands of people, has also become a hotbed for crime, and officials believe the Mexican cartels could use it as a foothold in the United States.

“State and local law enforcement officials have reported increases in violent crime throughout the county since new residents, many unlawfully present, have moved into the area, including several high profile murders, the largest drug bust in the history of Liberty County, and continuous drug cartel activity,” the letter goes on to read.

“According to these same claims, state and local law-enforcement treat this area as an effective, ‘no-go zone,’ further heightening the appeal for illegal activity in this development.” The letter also addresses “negative impacts on the local school system,” explaining that its rapid growth is largely “due to the thousands of illegal aliens flocking to Colony Ridge.”

But in addition to issues regarding crime, an overburdened school system, and a surge in the illegal immigrant population in the area, the letter goes on to point to a burden on local infrastructure, citing a report from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that found Colony Ridge responsible for “48,000 gallons of wastewater contaminating local bayous and significant fecal coliform contamination of drainage ditches.”

The congressmen say Attorney General Paxton should “thoroughly investigate the land purchasing, use, tax status, and other authorizations relating to Colony Ridge and its affiliate entities.” The letter applauds Governor Abbott for announcing his plan to call a special legislative session to address Colony Ridge, noting that “it is our view that any new state laws created to address these concerns should be applied and upheld in Colony Ridge and the surrounding area.”

The only good thing I can think of to this community is this: If we ever get a real President and the decision is made to move these invaders back to where they came from, they will be easy to find.

I like how they throw out the cartel card, like those guys can't afford houses in the suburbs.

The incident comes as Colony Ridge developer William “Trey” Harris attempts to make inroads with legislators by inviting them to go on a guided tour of the development, while recent articles downplay concerns of criminality and cartel activity in the area.

Concerns of crime and cartel activity have recently reached the forefront of the conversation surrounding Colony Ridge, with Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader warning that law enforcement is not adequately equipped to handle the swiftly growing development. He also confirmed that there is cartel activity in the area, including drug trafficking, sexual crimes, and violent crime.

Four Texas State Representatives recently signed a letter calling for a Department of Public Safety substation to be placed in the area, and even suggested that Liberty County be placed under conservatorship by the state of Texas. The call for action comes ahead of the upcoming special session, which will include potential legislation to address Colony Ridge.

Texas Rangers who completed a search warrant on the residence failed to obtain the two suspects, who are still believed to be on the run. Investigators reported finding spent shell casings and other evidence.

Members of the Texas legislature introduced legislation that would earmark $40 million in state funds to support Department of Public Safety border security operations as well as operations in Colony Ridge, a massive land development that has become a magnet for illegal immigrants.

The news came after Governor Greg Abbott called for a fourth special legislative session, the second that highlighted Colony Ridge by name in the aftermath of investigations from The Daily Wire that found the rapidly expanding development has become a hotbed for crime, and that authorities are overwhelmed by the growing population.

Colony Ridge Board Awarded At Least $16 Million In Taxpayer Funds To Company With Ties To Developer, Leadership

The scrutiny has been focused largely on Harris, who not only owns the Colony Ridge development but also leads the municipal management board overseeing Colony Ridge.

Documents reviewed by The Daily Wire show that the board unanimously voted to award multi-million dollar contracts to Liberty Paving LLC. Liberty Paving has direct ties to John Harris, who is Trey Harris’ brother and co-owns Colony Ridge with Trey Harris. John Harris is the president and director of T-Rex Management, the company that manages Liberty Paving.

But Liberty Paving also has ties to another board member, Savannah Crihfield, who voted to award the company a multi-million dollar contract. Liberty Paving lists CH&P Management as its registered agent, the entity that is usually compensated in return for receiving official documentation such as tax notices and court papers. Savannah Crihfield, the secretary of the management board that voted to award the contracts, is the president of CH&P Management.

Crihfield’s firm appears to be deeply intertwined with Colony Ridge — CH&P is listed as the registered agent of Colony Ridge Development LLC and manages the development’s property owner’s association. What’s more, T-Rex Management Inc. and CH&P Management LLC share the same address, according to business records.

It appears that Crihfield is more than just a business associate of the Harris brothers — obituaries in the local newspaper indicate that Crihfield may be related to the developers. One obituary indicates that John and Trey Harris are siblings of Renae Neal, and another obituary identifies Crihfield as “Savannah Neal-Crihfield,” listing her along with Renae Neal, John, Harris, and Trey Harris as “devoted family” of the deceased. Neither Crihfield nor the Harris brothers responded to inquiries on the relationship.

Records show that the ties between Colony Ridge and Liberty Paving run deep. Liberty Paving’s publicly listed executive, Patrick Thiel, sits on the board of Colony Ridge’s utility board, which similarly has the ability to allocate tax revenues.

Environmental Protection Agency Confirms Active Investigation Into Colony Ridge

While it is unclear what exactly the EPA investigation pertains to, Colony Ridge, which is estimated to be home to anywhere from 40,000 to 75,000 people, has come under criticism for its water management practices, with one local researcher alleging that the embattled development flouted a wide range of regulations.

Bob Rehak, who writes at Reduce Flooding, alleged that the development flouted drainage regulations and did not have nearly enough fire hydrants, with several blocks of the neighborhood having none at all.

Rehak, who has extensively documented environmental concerns at the development, also asserted that the water and sewage manager for Colony Ridge dumped 48,000 gallons of fecal-contaminated water into streams that have the potential to flow into Lake Houston, the primary source of drinking water for Houston, America’s fourth most populous city.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality later fined Quadvest, the company serving Colony Ridge, over the dumping of contaminated water.

Meanwhile, the DOJ and CFPB lawsuit also alleges that Colony Ridge took advantage of language barriers to sell unsuspecting customers property that lacked proper electrical and water infrastructure, and that was even located on flood-prone land.

Hahaha, I bet Houston is also the number one proponent within Texas of letting illegals come across and setup shanty towns.

Typical leftist response: throw other people's money at a problem the government created. Because that's always worked so well.
