Not sure, for some reason, millions of older Belkin routers just stopped working yesterday.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2692...lkin-router-to-the-internet-theres-a-fix.html

But even though they claim to have fixed it, my router is still dead. I can connect to it all day long, but it wont connect to the net. I've done the recommended reset procedure four or five times, no joy yet. If your router hasnt been affected, I wouldnt worry about it. And it is I think four years old. If it had faild normally, I think I wouldn't be too worked, But for them to kill it, that's annoying.

from reddit: We found the routers are sending icmp to heartbeat.belkin.com. Even though we could get a response here at our NOC, the belkins are not receiving it. We added the ip for heartbeat.belkin.com as a loopback address on a router on our network and it becomes

why would the damn router need to constantly ping belkin.com to function ?

Seems like a poor design ...

sorry for your woes glhs ... id be on amazon, buying something else

Debating between the price and range of products on AMazon vs just getting one fast from Best Buy or Wally World. Right now we are sort of buddy breathing the net, between some powerline networking shifting, but nobodys happy.

Just bought a Motorola from BB. It is a combined Modem and wireless/wired router. Cost aboiut $140

Had massive issues with setup. Short story is that there were 2 or 3 "power saving" features in the router that needed to be turned off before I could connect more than 1 PC to it AND later, all of my I-products.

After the initial set-up hair pulling... it has worked FANTASTIC!

My issue with that si that if any part of the combined unit craps out, you are stuck replacing both things, like the ol TV/VCR combo :) And of course, I plan on remotley locating the cable modem up into a mechaincal room when I cut in the whole house hardwired network. But I want to keep the wifi on the main floor where it's coverage is maximized.
