Thanksgiving Traditions

Does anyone have any Thanksgiving Traditions (outside of the usual turkey dinner and football game) they would like to share?

When I was younger, my mom and I would always watch the parade and eat cinnamon buns together, but know that I'm a mother I would like to get some ideas on traditions to start with my daughter.

Thanks!

I have always done that. Not a super exciting thing but its always fun, we sit down together and create a christams list.

Where do you pull them out from? :twitch:

:lmao:

I think the only tradition we have is watching the Macy's parade in the morning. But that's not even a tradition anymore cause my boys don't like it. So, sleeping in? :lmao:

My husband's family has a tradition that they do, this will be my 3rd year doing it with them.
It's called "Pie Day". All the women get together the day before Thanksgiving and make like a billion Pie's for Thanksgiving. It is so much fun. Then on Thanksgiving you eat the pie and you even get to take some home with you. Yum Yum

We do that with cookies the first weekend in December. All my girlfriends and a few family members get together and we make all different kinds of cookie dough from chocolate chip to mexican wedding cookie. Then we divide the dough into equal portions and then everyone takes theirs home to cook at their leisure.

You should see it we start with about 20 packs of butter 10 bags of flour it is a crazy but fun production

We have a table cloth that my family signs their name on every year, we have been doing this for about 20yrs now. We have a large family and each year it is a different color cloth marker that we use. We are running out of room for names, guess we will have to start a new one soon. Some of the family memebers have passed away, it is so nice to see the names of those that have passed away brings back the memeories. And of course names of X,s too...LOL!!!! But it is a neat thing we do every year.

When I was very young, we travelled to NC or VA, depending on whose side of the family we were visiting. The tradition then was to wake up at the butt crack of dawn and load up in the van. My sister and I had the pink foam rollers in our hair, and we'd beg to take them out (but we weren't allowed). We'd stop at a fast food joint 1/2 hour from our destination and get into our dresses, stockings, and nice shoes. We'd take the rollers out of our hair, and my mom would try to tame the mass of curls with about 1.5 gallons of hair spray. We'd always miss the parade. :ohwell:

When we got older, we started hosting TG at our place. No more travelling! Instead, our tradition was to wake up at the butt crack of dawn and spend all morning (in addition to the previous 2 days) frantically running around cleaning and cooking. We'd have the parade on in the background, but never actually got to sit down and watch it. I still don't know if I've seen the whole parade. Good times though....
