The Arc Southern Maryland Announces 5th Annual
Day at the Derby SoMD Style” Fundraiser

The Arc Southern Maryland is excited to announce the return of its signature spring fundraiser, Day at the Derby SoMD Style, celebrating its 5th anniversary this year. The highly anticipated event will bring the excitement, style, and tradition of the Kentucky Derby to Southern Maryland while raising critical funds to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Guests can expect an afternoon filled with Derby-inspired fashion, signature cocktails, a cigar lounge, a southern Maryland & KY inspired dinner, live entertainment, an exciting auction, and the thrill of the Kentucky Derby race. The event has quickly become one of the region’s most beloved community fundraisers, bringing together supporters, local businesses, and advocates who believe in creating opportunities for people with disabilities.

Funds raised during the event help The Arc Southern Maryland continue providing programs and services that empower individuals to live meaningful, independent lives within their communities.

“Each year this event grows in energy and community support,” said Terry Long, CEO. “It’s a celebration of inclusion, community, and the incredible individuals we support every day.”

One of the highlights of this year’s event will be the King vs. Queen fundraising competition, where two community champions are competing to raise funds and be crowned Derby royalty. Mark Frisco (Century 21 New Millenium) is vying for the title of King, while Ophelia Gray-Anunihu (Arc SoMD Community Supports Manager) is competing for the Queen’s crown. Every donation, ticket sale or sponsorship made in their honor counts as a vote toward their victory, making the competition both exciting and impactful.

The Arc Southern Maryland has been serving the community for more than 50 years, supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through employment programs, residential services, community engagement opportunities, and advocacy.

Community members are invited to attend, sponsor, or support the event and help make this milestone year the most impactful yet.

Dear Supporter,

As we gear up for our 5th Annual Day at the Derby fundraiser, I am writing to extend a heartfelt invitation to you to join hands with us in support of a cause that is close to our hearts: advocating for and supporting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Our annual Day at the Derby event has become a beacon of hope and a source of substantial support for the over 1,000 people with IDD and their families we support.

This year, on May 2, 2026, we are hosting our much-anticipated fundraiser, A Day at the Derby SoMD Style. The funds raised from this event will directly contribute to enhancing the lives of individuals with IDD by providing them with access to vital resources, specialized programs, and opportunities for personal growth and development.

As a valued member of our community, your generous contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it the most. Your support will enable us to continue offering comprehensive services, fostering independence, and nurturing a sense of belonging among individuals with IDD.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in our community. Together, we can create a
world where everyone is valued and included. Hope to see you at the races.
