The Attack of the Pridefully Ignorant

He started off well enough making the distinction that 'willfully ignorant' is not the same as 'something is wrong with you'. So, maybe he had some interesting points to make. He actually made it two full paragraphs before jumping the shark by calling such people 'insane'

Then, in all his "I am CONNECTED therefore I am!" flock of sheep individuality, he actually flacks for FB. Facebook. That's like being in favor of WalMart. How stylish. How cutting edge for Mr. 'Hi' Tech.

And through the entire thing he seems to just not care about the point he is making "You MUST become 'connected' or you are a loser' after starting off talking about this un-connected 'remarkably' successful attorney.

Huh.

Huh.

I know he was talking about being connected in business, and using the social media, etc.

But I related it to more of some of the non-business people I know, like my aunt - (retired in June 2011, and was an HR Director who is on FB, plays online games on Pogo & has friends there, etc.) who refuses to have a phone to text with. She can't even get a text ON her phone. But yet will complain when I have updated the family on the health issues of my mom in 1 text to 10 family members in order to save time & forgot to call her.

And myself. I've resisted getting a Smartphone because I'm thinking it will take me too much time to learn it. :cds:

My aunt is into week four of her resistance to the cable TV company making her TV useless without a box. Listening to a lot of radio.

I love anyone who says "#### you. I don't HAVE to get in line!" I mean, at the end of the day 'the system' wins. It just does. Fighting it is a good thing.

Resistance is futile!

I sent you a PM telling you to check your FAX machine because I FAX'd you a memo telling you to check your email where there is an email from me asking you to text me your phone number so I can call you.

Just thought this was an interesting read. I've been due an upgrade on my phone for a while now, but have been avoiding the Smartphone leap. Guess I need to get with the program!

I love Grandmama's response following the article...

I love people who can so skillfully divide the world into two kinds- those who are as cool and savvy as I am, and those who are hopeless dorks.
Actually, dear Shelly, I'm somewhere in between. I'll never be as clever and connected as you are, but I do have a computer, do email and occasionally check Facebook to be apprised of what my friends had for breakfast, and of their latest political enlightenment. A smart phone would be lovely, but at $1200 a year? Maybe not just yet. I'll just borrow yours, how's that? That way you and I will both understand how much superior you are to me, and you pay the bills. That works for me.

And Grandmama has a valid point... add up how much you spend a year on your cable/satellite bill, your internet access charges, your cellphone charges, and how much you spend each year on the add-ons for downloads for all the above. Now factor in the rapidly ever increasing cost of groceries, electricity, heating and transportation costs... does that really leave folks the disposable income they need to be putting into savings?
