Luke 22:1 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Just in case some readers don't know what Passover is, it's Biblical. Back in the days right before Moses took the people to the Promised Land, God had to teach Pharoah a lesson. Pharoah had been playing God. Pharoah considered himself God. So, when Moses went to Pharoah and told him "God says, 'Let my people go'", Pharoah was ignorant and said "no". God sent plagues to change Pharoah's mind. The last plague God sent was the death of the firstborn male child. Pharoah's own son died that night. Meanwhile, Moses and his people smeared sheep's blood over their doors and the Angel of Death "passed over" their homes without killing their first born. After that Pharoah was delighted to send the Jews on their way. So, after that, every year, the Jewish Nation has remembered the event with "Passover". Judas Iscariot must have visited the Chief Priests and teachers of the law while he was supposed to be out getting supplies for the Passover meal. I think I learned in Sunday School, that when Mary poured that expensive nard [perfume] on Jesus and sopped it up with her hair, Judas was angry. He told Jesus the nard [perfume] was a luxury they could not afford. Jesus waived Him off and said " There will always be poor to feed. I'm only going to be here a little while. "
Thousands of people followed Jesus everywhere He went. The only time they were alone was when Jesus was praying. Jesus was happy to pray alone. He wasn't one to get up in front of everyone and drone on and on and on and on.... He taught it was pompous and pompous is bigheaded. Jesus didn't do bigheaded.
Now, Jesus did pray in public once. On the Mount.... during the sermon... someone asked Him to teach them how to pray. He taught them the Lord's Prayer. It is short and to the point. It isn't pompous.
Judas Iscariot was moved by Satan, to show the Chief Priests' armed guard where Jesus would be praying. In return, Judas would earn some coins he could use to feed the poor. "That would show Jesus that taking care of the poor was more important."
The stage is set. Here we go....
The betrayal is afoot.
