The Black Horse

Revelation 6:5 When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. 6 Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “Two pounds of wheat for a day’s wages, and six pounds of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!
This is the link to the commentary I used on the verses above. I'm quoting Guzik's study now... not the Bible. I've been using Guzik's study for years so I trust it's not AI. Here's what it says about the verses posted for today.

A black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand: The scales symbolized the need to carefully measure and ration food. This speaks of a time of scarcity.
A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius: These prices are about twelve times higher than normal. It means that it would cost a day’s wage to buy the ingredients for a loaf of bread. This describes “a time of famine when life will be reduced to the barest necessities.” (Walvoord)
We often see great famine in the world today, yet fewer people suffer from hunger today than 100 years ago. However, understanding the world’s precarious ecological balance, it would not take much to plunge many into the kind of scarcity and inequity mentioned here.
Do not harm the oil and the wine: Yet, the nicer things will be available for those who can afford them. There will still be the oil and the wine that should not be harmed.
Yesterday, Hubby and I were talking about a news story [Scripps] about two major food stores merging. The complaint was that the grocery prices would go up. Hubby says "see, after we retired... everyone got a raise... and now we have to pay more because everyone got a raise". Oh Hubby... prices started going up a long, long time ago. I remember when a good bottom round was $.19 a pound. I remember when gas was a $.09 a gallon during "gas wars". I noticed Hubby didn't complain when the dispensary lowered the price on Medical Marijuana down to $59 an ounce. When I started working, I worked at Rexall Drugs as a cashier for $1.00 an hour. I earned $1.60 an hour when I graduated High School and went to work for NSA at Fort Meade.

So, IMHO, this is not about just high prices, as I heard one preacher sermonize.

I think this is more about something like what happened in Gaza. Yes, I know.... We've had bad times before. My grandmother used to tell me about what the Great Depression was like. But in Gaza, someone stole the peace, they started to kill each other... and now there is no food.

If Kroger and Sprouts do merge.... They will still deliver the food to the stores.... As long as there are roads to drive on and stores to deliver to.

In Gaza, there are no roads and no grocery stores. Food is airdropped. No, it's not manna... like the Egyptians gathered up. It's food being dropped on the shore from a plane.

Maybe Jesus and John were being sarcastic when they wrote about the cost of oil and wine. Maybe it was "God forbid the cost of getting drunk or eating good should become the worst of their problems!".

Review... a dictator takes over [White Horse]; people start killing each other [Red Horse]; people can't have enough to eat [Black Horse].

Matthew 24:5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many. 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

So, Sam Spade, you are right.... but Jesus said we will recognize it when it comes. So, we should be looking for it.... or it will "come like a thief in the night" and catch us doing something we will regret.

This is about the Black Horse....
