Luke 20:41 Then Jesus said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David? 42 David himself declares in the Book of Psalms:
“‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
43 until I make your enemies
a footstool for your feet.”’
44 David calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?
45 While all the people were listening, Jesus said to his disciples, 46 “Beware of the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 47 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. These men will be punished most severely.
I once heard a preacher say, "Satan wouldn't dare step foot in my church!".

The Pharisees, Sadducees, Teachers of the law, and the Elders, all had/have to "look" assured in their faith. They have to lead the others to God... or so that's what I've been told. I must admit to the contrary... I have also been taught that Jesus will meet me wherever I am when I call out His Name. They don't know everything, and we should not require it of them. It' puts a millstone around their necks. It's not fair.

This morning, when I opened up the Religion Forum, I saw the article about the students taking on the call to "pray unceasingly". A Christian Scholar [this is taking place in a Christian School] is reported to have taken the call to "pray unceasingly" and turned it into a movement. Most who are there will be there to be seen. They will spill out long and windy prayers for the adoration of those who hear their velvet voice. Some who are there think it's a great idea for protest, and they will bring their voices so the "right" will be earned through their cry. It will look like everyone is seeking the guidance of Our Father, but in reality, there will still be Pharisees stroking their own flowing robes. The longer it goes, the more unholy robes will show off.

Others, of those who are known to be there to "be seen there", will taint the wonderful event. Mr. Jones will recognize Mr. Smith, the evil landlord. Mr. Jones knows Mr. Smith just evicted a family of four because they could not afford the rent increase, without regard for where they will lay their heads. Mr. Jones will hear Mr. Smith reciting his memorized prayer and Mr. Jones will call the whole event a sham, run by the likes of Mr. Smith for a profit. It doesn't matter if it's true. It's how it will be perceived

A few... real Christians... hear about the school shootings, the earthquakes, the wars and rumors of wars, the children living in bunkers without a sliver of sunlight, babies surviving childbirth during an earthquake while watching their mother die, and much, much, more and they are sincerely asking for God to "Intervene". A few are praying, really praying.

King David was known to be a favorite of God. God made David king. David was full of Adoration for God. David tried to please God. But, alas, David was human, and he took another man's wife and tried to cover it up. A baby died because David was a king and no one should see his failures. David was called "lord". The people wanted a king like everyone else. God was against the idea. God knew it was just too big a title for a human. Even David, with God on his side, failed miserably and a baby died. But, people called him "lord". The Pharisees are sure they are "lords" too.

Jesus pointed out the fact that the Pharisees should know and understand Psalm 110. They were, after all, the clergy. The Pharisees, the Sadducees, The Teachers of the Law, and the elders were charged with helping everyone else "Worship". Instead, they were just self-righteous holier than thou windbags. They had been doing the same old thing every single day, day after day, decade after decade, and they were so into the ritual of their "worship" that they lost the message.

God is Lord. His Son is Lord. Jesus will be back. The blowhards will be His footstool.
