The conspiracy theorist mind

So I got involved in a conversation with someone who doesn't understand photography and because of they they claim the earth is actually smaller than the moon.

I explained focal length and perspective to them and they insist I bought into the lies.

What makes someone's head so broken they believe crap like that?

He probably saw the picture of the earth taken from the moon. The earth is def smaller than the moon.

The one thing I have heard from flat earth conspirators that is true is that pretty much every photo used to show the curvature is using an ultra-wide angle lens that creates curvature. That doesn't mean the earth is flat, but it is weird. If you know people are going to complain why not take your nice wide angle shots, then shoot a couple normal photos too?

Best one I heard, back when I turned wrenches on helos for Dyna back in the late 90s was from a black guy in the shop. Guy swore up and down that a prisoner had developed a cure for AIDs while in prison, but "The Man" was keeping it secret because "The Man" wanted more brothers to die.

I don't know, couple of guys I know, both very intelligent guys, really believed Trump paid strippers to pee on him in a Moscow hotel room.
I see him more as the pisser than the pissee if he was into that sort of thing, but more importantly I don't care if he is into water sports.

I love a good conspiracy theory and I fully believe there's more to pretty much every story than what "they" tell us. But at some point it has to be plausible. If it sounds like silly BS to me - someone who wants to believe - then it's likely BS.

Would it really surprise anyone if there was a cure for AIDS and cancer and whatever else, but Big Pharma was paying our government and media to keep it quiet?

Really?

After we just went through the biggest hoax in American history, courtesy of Big Pharma?

The stuff that gets me is the sort of thing that anyone with a small understanding of photography and trigonometry can verify for themselves, yet they don't believe it and refuse to even convince themselves. I told one guy to take a picture of the moon with his smartphone and it will be very small, nope the moon is larger than the earth and we are being lied to.
