That crash you heard during the debate? That was Obama's campaign manager's head exploding - "STOP LOOKING DOWN AT YOUR CHEAT SHEET!!!!!"
Romney walked away with it, no contest. I wasn't expecting to be impressed, but I thought he did very well. The Republican red power tie was a nice touch; Obama's wussy blue tie looked weak (adequately matching his debate answers). Their cute little matching flag lapel pins were adorable.
The true believers are going to say Obama won and Romney was horrible, blick, Hitler, nyah nyah. But Romney looked strong and competent, like he knew what he was talking about, with off the cuff answers. By contrast, Obama looked like he didn't know what to say, occasionally going completely off-topic instead of answering the question; that every time the camera was on him he was looking down must have driven his campaign guys through the roof.
Romney's big sin was interrupting and overriding the moderator - BIG no-no - and at one point he got all jacked up (or passionate, if you will) and started flailing his arms about, which made him look frantic and uptight. I did like it, though, that he didn't let Obama get away with spinning and jumped in to set the record straight.
I watched with a friend and if we'd have taken a drink every time Obama fumbled for words or said "uh, um" we'd have been passed out within the first 10 minutes.
Romney looked like a CEO and the boss; Obama looked like...a community organizer.
I thought Lehrer did an excellent job, and usually I can't stand him.
