Italy's Gazzeta dello Sport reports on their website that Valentino Rossi's contract with Yamaha is for 10 millon Euros. With the Euro quoted today at 117 to buy and 113 to sell, that makes this a $11,000,000 deal and easily the biggest in motorcycle racingh history.
Yamaha will be very careful about confirming this news until their lawyers are certain of holding a binding agreement. Last winter Yamaha announced a deal with Nicky Hayden only to learn that Honda held an option to the AMA Superbike champion's contract.
It is expected that some kind of announcement will be made at Sepang during this week's Malaysian Grand Prix. Rossi needs to either finish ahead of Sete Gibernau or finish second behind the Spanish rider to take the title, his third consecutive in GP racing's premier class.
