The future for our children?

Do you ever think you don't want children because you're unsure what will happen in their lifetime? The Earth isn't going to support us forever. What if they run out of fresh water? Fossil fuels? Will we (all people on earth) be able to find new and innovative ways of surviving? Do you ever think sometimes that you can't be sure your kids will be ok, so you don't want to have any at all?

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The only way we aren't going to survive on this planet is if we end up killing eachother off. We will find ways around anything the environment can throw at us, short of a apocolyptic scenario (read: meteor strike). And, sense there is no way to predict that an apocolyptic scenario is going to happen anytime even remotely soon, then there is no reason to worry.

When we run out of fossil fuels, we will result to other resources. By the time we kill off every other living thing on the planet besides humans, we will have found a manner to produce energy for our bodies and every day needs and wants.

The only thing you should fear is them getting killed/traumatized by another person.

Were you killed or traumatized? Prior isn't applicable, latter....meh, your still here and doin alright.

Well, I have children and I worry about things like that all of the time (Yes, I worry way too much). The unknown is pretty scary. I'm just trying to do the best I can for them while I'm here.

I didn't have those exact fears but of course I had concerns. I only wanted the very best for my children and I still do. People told me when I had my kids the world wasn't a safe place and nobody knew what would happen when the year 2000 hit blah blah blah and even called us "selfish" for "putting our kids into this world" in the shape it was in. My response was that maybe one of my children would be one of the ones to make a difference.

People have been saying that for generations and so far the earth is supporting us just fine.

My biggest concern is how our society is changing and the threat of socialism. Because if we close our eyes to protecting ourselves, THAT will be a rather spectacular mistake and the biggest threat to our children's welfare.

I think our children will make the future work, just like we did, and generations before us.

I like that response :yay:

This is not the religion forum.

That was my thought..I read that and said..."What the hell does that have to do with anything?"

The only way we will cease to exist, besides what Gwydion mentioned, is if everyone gets to feeling CONFIDENTLY in the way you are thinking and stops procreating. Until that time, babies will be born and life will continue barring any major intervention like...earth hitting the sun...but they won't feel a thing if that happens so no worries :yay:

I once thought the same but when you think about it, what tangibly is there to be scared about? The unknown is nothing at all but you scaring yourself.

I think for me, the issue is that I'm probably:twitch: a control freak. I like to have a plan for everything (and I understand this about myself). I know that life does not work this way, but somehow I manage to obsess about things I have no control over.

I think the other part is that I love my kids so much, the thought of not being in this world to protect them is very difficult for me to accept. Yes, I know it's going to happen whether I worry about it or not. This is just one of those things I have a hard time with. I never knew how much I could love something until I had kids.

Animals and humans have adapted and survived for millennia. You worry too much. Enjoy life and your kids' lives instead of obsessing about the future. It will drive you insane if you do.

My kids are going to be the ones to solve all those problems. :bubble:
