The Hendrick Penalty

From the understanding I got, watching Wind Tunnel last night, was that Hendrick's team did not violate a written rule, thus it wasn't illegal - just an improper modification.

So my questions are:
Didn't NASCAR say no tampering with the COT?

If it wasn't illegal, then isn't it possible the 24 aqnd 48 have used these modificationsa at every COT race, since most teams have used the same car at COT tracks?

Shouldn't NASCAR go harder on Hendrick because it sounds like these violations have won 5 or 6 races?

The other thing I didn't get was Darby saying this was by far the worst violation he'd ever seen.

"I wish we could stamp the bodies and give them to us. If it's got a serial number on it from NASCAR and we haven't altered the serial number, we're in good shape." - Rick Hendrick

It sounds to me like this has been going on all year, and NASCAR only just caught it.

I'm hearing $500,000 and 500 points for each team.

Johnson: “We are at the mercy of NASCAR and I hope they are light on us, but who knows.”

Because they have gone light on Johnson's team in the past (i.e. Daytona 2006) and they've learned their lesson.

What I found more interesting on WindTunnel last night was the comments recently made by Charles Barkley.

"...On a recent TNT NBA broadcast the network showed a sneak preview viewing of the new opening video they put together for their Nextel Cup coverage. The video features the band Hinder doing a “Born To Be Wild” cover featuring some scantily young ladies.

After it was shown Barkley dropped this line on viewers: "That's false advertising. Those women had their own teeth, and they were clean. They had nice hair. They don't have those type of women at NASCAR."
