The Hobbit movie

I know this isn't an earth shattering event, but just wondered if anyone else had read the article online that the "prequel" to the Lord of the Rings was going into production (I think a release date of 2011). It features as a reprise the actor who played Gandalf in the Jackson films and like the trilogy , is being filmed in NZ.
Looking forward to seeing one of the books I fervently read as a teenager ( Lord of the Rings, Dune, Chronicles of Narnia) on the screen.

Is Jackson doing this one too? If so, 2011 isn't soon enough! :nerd:

Do you have a source for this? I heard that he wasn't going to do The Hobbit because of some copyright issues/payment?

I read it online at Yahoo, which I realize isn;t the best of sources, but I think there is a link if you hit "The Hobbit" on Google.
I bleieve they finally got the funding from Warner.

Thank you HC.
This is awesome ! I have always loved the books since I picked up the trilogy in 66. All my fellow classmates were reading it voraciously and naturally being curious, I began with the Fellowship and couldn't put it down.
I know there was a rumor that Stanley Kubrick wanted to do the trilogy in 68, but the cost was prohibitive in SFX alone. I cursed Bakshi when he did the animated version and I wasn't pleased with the Hanna Barbera versions, but I had hopes when Disney did the Black Cauldron in '84.
I definitely was ecstatic when PJ came out with the movies and though it had a little variations (no Scouring of the Shire, etc) I was pleased with the monumental labor that went inot it.
I am looking forward to the Hobbit.

They're talking about casting James McAvoy :)hot:) as Bilbo.

Actually it is a director named Del Toro working under PJ's guidance. I still expect a quality product.
He directed Pan's Labyrinth, which was a fantastic movie. :yay:

Excellent...as I see Del Toro has another film out just like Pan's Labyrinth.
I guess Ian Holm is now way too old for Bilbo.
Still I am like a kid again as I want to see how they are going to do Smaug, Rivertown the Battle of Five armies.....LOL.
