I remember that one. Dad was stationed at Naval Weapons Station Goose Creek SC and the base chapel had a special mass that day to pray for the sailors aboard the sub. At the time, the sub was just missing if I recall correctly. We were getting ready to leave for church and someone let Dixie, our wired hair terrier, out. She got hit by a Navy special service bus and died immediately. Dad stayed home to bury her and I spent the entire service sobbing my heart out.
There's a line in hymn Eternal Father, Oh hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea. Still moves me to tears.
