ABATE Annual Toy Run to the Philadelphia Childrens Hospital will be taking place for the 30th, and LAST TIME EVER, this Sunday.
Line-up for the parade begins at 9am on Sunday, Nov 7 at Columbus Blvd and Spring Garden St. Parade leaves at 12 noon. It is completely police escorted, with all major highways closed for this parade.
I have done this run about 6 times, and it is incredible. First, to see how many bikes and people come out and from how far to do this run, and to give as much as they do. And 2nd, to actually see the faces of just a few of the kids that will benefit from this run, is very emotional. It's a very powerful experience.
It is a VERY family friendly run, very well organized and well worth your time.
ABATE requests that you consider kids of all ages with the new, unwrapped gifts. Infants are usually not considered as much as toddlers and older kids. Please avoid bringing gifts in plastic bags (consider the amount of plastic bags that they get), no stuffed animals, and please no Santa Suits.
Last year, The State Police Estimate was 98,000 motorcycles in participation of this run. The shear size of it is partly why this is the last one. The traffic impact to the area hospitals is impacting the hospitals ability to react to emergencies.
Again, this is the 30th run, and it will be the last one of it's kind. This is the one that you need to do.
