The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society

There is a group of 6 local girls that have joined together with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team-in-training program and on Sept 4th we will be running a half-marathon (13.1 miles). We have committed to raise over $13,000 for cancer research. Our team consists of a single Mom, a married nurse, a soon to be bride, a happily married Cuban, a married leukemia SURVIVOR, and me, a lazy single girl who enjoys pizza, soap operas and reality shows. Training to run the half-marathon will be grueling to all of us, because as we got older, we got less active. Too sum up a long story - this is going to be grueling, but we are committed to doing this. 75% of all proceeds donated go directly to cancer research. This is an exceptional percentage for a non-profit charitable organization.

I am here to ask for your help. I lost one friend from cancer recently, almost lost one a few years ago, and will lose one in a few years. I know many other people out there know someone who has battled with this disease. There are a few ways to support and donate to our team.
1. you could send a monetary donation. Contact me at JLmercer9581@hotmail.com for details
2. We are planning on holding a yard sale in Crofton on July 17th. We would appreciate donations of items that we can sell. 100% of the sale's profits will go to our $13,000 goal. Or if you are in the Crofton area that weekend, stop by and check us out.
3. We are also having a raffle. We will be selling raffle tickets locally and at the yard sale. The drawing will be July 17th. You do not need to be present to win. We would appreciate donations from local businesses, such as gift certificates or merchandise that we can include as raffle prizes. If you would like to purchase raffle tickets, contact me at the above email.
4. If you are interested in a corporate sponsorship, please send me an email at the above address and we can set up a time to meet.
5. The Leukemia Society is holding a raffle and for every $5 ticket sold, we will be able to put $1 towards our goal. The raffle is for (2) roundtrip tickets to anywhere that Southwest Airlines fly in the continental USA. Email me for details.

If you have any other suggestions or ways to help us, we would appreciate it. Our goal is $13,000, but secretly we are all hoping to raise a lot more than that. I am planning to wear pins with names of people who have been afflicted with these diseases. If you know of someone, please send me their names and I will add them on.

Thanks and sorry for such a long post! And a special thanks to those of you who have already contributed!

Hi GNO and welcome!

My son is a leukemia patient and we do the "Light the Night" walk. We use the old coffee can donation method. Just ask local businesses if you can put them at the counter and it helps. Good luck on your goal! The Society has been so helpful to my family and it IS a GREAT cause! :yay:
