The Lovely Bones

Went and saw it today after reading the book many years ago. Can't compare to the book at all,but does fine on it's own ... I felt you have tow look at it almost as a completely separate project/idea. Me and two who were with me were tearing up several times, esp. the end and saw others leaving in tears as well.

Kind of a teeny bopper film but you almost need to look at it that way since you're seeing it through a 14 year olds eyes.

Very picturesque!

Decent...somewhat touching film.:yay:

Shh, not in public.

I did want to see that movie when it came out but never got the chance to. I'll check it out on dvd. I like Mark Wahlberg.

Have you seen The Blind Side? I watched that over the weekend. Great movie!!

Been wanting to see that but haven't yet.

I'll probably check it out eventually on a bored night.

Spoilers ahead, in case anyone hasn't seen it and doesn't know what it's about...

I've had this on my DVR for awhile and finally watched it last night. I read the book back when it came out, but I'm notorious for reading something and forgetting most of the details a few years later. I remembered the jist of it, and that I didn't really care for it very much. Too weird. That being said, I liked the movie more than I thought I would. I liked the depiction of Susie's "In Between", and the care with which they showed her murder. Switching back and forth between her family eating dinner and her in that hole was just gut wrenching. I definitely cried. Hard. And I'm not a crier. And then when she's standing in the guy's bathroom and realizes what's happened? Ugh. The acting was great. I really loved seeing Mark Wahlberg in a paternal role and the girl who played Susie was just perfect. She really made that movie. Stanley Tucci was good too, but when isn't he good? It almost made me want to reread the book to see if my opinion changes, but I seem to remember her murder scene being graphic and I just can't handle that stuff.

Wow Nickel... I totally agree with everything you said. I also read the book and the murder scene was graphic... I do remember that... but like you, I tend to forget details in time but basically remember the gist of the story. And I also cried... I knew it was coming and still cried. Go figure!

A few weeks back, I watched "Dear John," and for some reason, I didn't think the previews did that movie any justice. It was pretty good and even better because I didn't cry. Being in a house full of boys, they often don't understand why some things make me cry and will often make fun of me.

Saw it a week or so ago and thought it was okay. Good acting overall, it was definitely sad, but it was also weird. It's definitely not a movie I would have seen in the theater.

We just saw it last night. I definitely cried, but I cry at everything. But what really got me was the way they talked about the father/daughter relationship. So sweet. Mark Wahlberg was great. And Stanley's character really gave me the creeps. I thought it was pretty good, but I haven't read the book.

I read the book a few years back and remember enjoying it, but thought it got a bit slow. It's rare that I prefer a movie over the book, but like others have said, I really enjoyed the way they portrayed the "limbo" state Susie was in. The cool tree with the leaves that turn to butterlies and fly away? Too cool! I definately shed some tears during that one also.

Well, I couldn't get the book from my library (too impatient to wait for it to get checked back in) so I got the book on CD. It was pretty darn good, way better than the movie. The movie just barely covered what was in the book, and I understand why, because the movie would have been too long and drawn out if it followed the whole book. I cried a lot though. The author was the narrator, and she read it really well (even though at first I thought her voice was boring and monotone). I was sad when it ended because I wanted more.
