Our message this week is following too closely causes collisions and injury. We strongly urge everyone to maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front. A general rule is to maintain at least one full car length distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front for every 10 mph of speed. In other words, if you are traveling 60 mph, a good distance is six car lengths between your vehicle and the vehicle in front. One of the main causes for rear end collisions is following too closely and speed. The Maryland State Police is committed to enforcing these laws to ensure safe driving. Our enforcement actions will result in the driver receiving a traffic citation. Please slow down, maintain a safe distance and give 100% of your attention to your driving.
