This press release is designed to inform the public of our commitment to ensuring safety and enforcing the laws in Maryland.
Our message this week is motorcycle safety. The number of motorcyclists killed in crashes dropped to 5,172 in 2017, a 3% decrease, but motorcycle riders are still over-represented in traffic fatalities. To keep everyone safe, we urge drivers and motorcyclists to share the road and be alert, and we’re reminding motorcyclists to make themselves visible, to use DOT-compliant motorcycle helmets, and to always ride sober. (source:NHTSA website)
A few of the main causes of motorcycle collisions in our area is aggressive driving, driving between vehicles and speeding. Furthermore, stopping traffic by motorcycles causes congestion on our roadways as well as creates a dangerous situation for everyone. Please refrain from blocking traffic, it’s dangerous and it’s against the law. If you are driving a motorcycle on our roadway, please slow down and drive with caution. Our family’s lives depend on it.
