The "New" Evans Seafood Restaurant

Venture down Piney Point road and you'll find that the old Evans seafood restaurant has now been replaced by a brand new building and new owners. While the name is the same, this is not owned by the Evans family that had the previous establishment.
Being in the mood for seafood I convinced my wife and our good friends to give it a try and boy were we disappointed. We were seated promptly and our server informed us about the special and took our drink orders right away. So far, so good and we all expected a good visit. Things went down hill from there.
We ordered appetizers of cream of crab soup which was marginally good, but not really good and certainly not as good as the Captain’s table. The crab dip was probably just a little better than okay. For our meals my wife and I both ordered the rockfish platter and our friends had fried shrimp basket and steak. The restaurant was nearly empty, but it still took us more than 30 minutes to receive our food and once we did...it was awful. The fish was fried to a crisp, chewy and tasted bad. Our friend ordered her steak to be cooked medium and it came out well done X 2 at least. The fried shrimp seemed to be okay for our other friend.
Now the bill comes and we put out our cards to spit it 50/50. Remember, the place is just about empty, but it still took her 15 minutes to return so we could sign the credit card receipts. Oh, and when she does return, she brought out two to-go boxes full of fish and fries. When we looked at her a little strange she said that the “chef” had mistakenly made us flounder instead of rockfish and this was our rockfish to take home. WHAT? Normally, I would have complained to the manager on duty, but decided to wait and call the owner the next morning. However, before calling I decided to check our bank account to ensure we were debited the correct amount. Guess what...they had charged us twice. Called my buddy thinking maybe they charged us twice and did not charge them at all, but nope, they charged us twice and them once.
Talked to the owner and of course he was livid with what I told him. He fixed the debit card charges later that day and pretty much begged us to come back and try it again...which we wont’ do.
Very disappointed and I hope this helps someone avoid a bad experience of their own.

My wife and I went a few weeks back and won't go back!!!!!!

I would have expected that quality of food from a place that charged 1/4 of the price we paid. :geek:

Went there last week. It is a shame they have the Evans name associated with the new place. It is not the "Evans" we all know. Very dissapointed with it. Hush puppies, dry, cream of crab was disgusting. I have to agree The Captains Table might not look like much, but they have the best cream of crab soup.

I will not go again and do not reccommend them to anyone.

Millertc's hubby here:
Great. My company's Christmas Party is there on Thursday and the annual free meal I get from them will suck this year because my Program Manager has no palate (because he loves the place). :cds:

Did you have a choice with what you could get or is it buffett? Maybe they will have something special for the party:whistle:

It amuses me when people complain about some place when they were actually righted on the wrongs they encountered.
You got free fish because you were given the wrong meal.
The manager corrected your debits and it can easily be assumed that this, as well as some other issues, were because of new hires.
The thing that leads me to know you are one of "those" people who can always complain about a restaurant is this:
Normally, I would have complained to the manager on duty, but decided to wait and call the owner the next morning.

I think that most people "normally" don't run into problems enough to say that they would "normally" complain. :coffee:

 Going out to dinner shouldn't involve getting wrongs righted..You go out to enjoy, if the food/service/drinks are bad, it doesn't matter what the staff does at that point. If I complain, I don't care if they comp the whole meal, it still ruined my night out.

Nobody's perfect
If they do their best to correct their errors then it gets them some points back in my book.
I can't see how ANYTHING could be so bad that it would "ruin your night out"...and I've had some bad experiences
