The Payback for Mar-a-Lago Will Be Brutal

If anything, a perceived political persecution of Mr. Trump could help him to a second term. And he would be even more unrestrained as the 47th president than he was as the 45th. A second Trump administration wouldn’t have the caliber of grown-ups who signed up for the first tour. Mr. Garland’s raid has made even the highest political figures fair prosecutorial game, and the media’s new standard is that the department can’t be questioned as it goes about ensuring “no one is above the law.” Let’s see how that holds when a future Republican Justice Department starts raiding the homes of Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Eric Holder, James Comey and John Brennan.

Payback could come even sooner. Democrats set a new low with their Ukrainian impeachment circus, and a GOP House next year might be up for a reprise. Get ready for a few more select committees—perhaps excluding the minority party, as the Democrats effectively did with the Jan. 6 committee—to investigate Mr. Garland’s politicized department or Hunter Biden’s finances. Watch them subpoena sitting Democratic representatives, as the Jan. 6 committee did to Republicans. Reps. Adam Schiff, Ilhan Omar and Eric Swalwell may find themselves on the back bench with a new Republican majority eager to follow Mrs. Pelosi’s example and strip the opposing team’s members of committee assignments.

All this tit for tat will further undermine our institutions and polarize the nation—but such is the nature of retributive politics. Which is why the wholesale Democratic and media defense of this week’s events is so reckless. Both parties long understood that political restraint was less about civility than self-preservation. What goes around always comes around. What went around this week will come around hard.

I mean part of me would love to see the Reps go scorched earth on the Dems, but it is critical that the Reps to focus on the important things (i.e. inflation, energy, etc.) Let them go after retribution in their spare time.

We need a Judge Dredd to take care of that.

Retribution IS their focus. All the other "small" things (infrastructure, inflation, energy, etc.) is their spare time stuff. Has been this way for YEARS!
Of course, ALL of this falls a distant second to keeping their cush jobs.

Please. You people are delusional. The promises of “payback” and “civil war” are sooooo overused now such that they have all the zing of the charge of “racism”.

They’re gonna go home, they’re gonna jerk off, and that’s all they gonna do.

I don't see how "civil war" happens. There's no idealogical divide. There's just anger.
There's no border, no ethnic or religious or racial boundary - there's no discernible "enemy".
There's nothing substantial to fight over, or win.

What MAY happen - is civil unrest. But I don't think it will amount to much.

It won’t. They’ll stand in front of their bathroom mirrors making Tik-Tok videos replete with pew pew pew sounds and a Winston or cheap cigar hanging out of their yaps but that’s it.

At the end of the day, they have bills to pay and need regular income, since they are largely leveraged up to their gills.

I don't see how any credible Republican win in Congress can go without some retribution.
Some things have to be brought up.
51 Intelligence officers swearing to the Russian Hoax.
Schiff and Nadler have to be censured for their part in that hoax.
The time and money wasted on Pelosi's insurrection scam.
The people who are being held in jail without Habeas Corpus --Bail or--even a speedy trial.
Even if guilty they should get time served and cut loose.
Hunter Biden's lap top.
The President being guilty of working with Hunter to enrich themselves using their Government offices.
The conspiracy to keep a sitting President from doing his job and the harrassment of him in 2 impeachment trial and the breaking into his home with a farce warrant.
Milley refusing to obey orders from a President.

How can any of these things be ignored.
It will be called retribution, but in fact it isn't. It is something that has to be dealt with firmly
The United States cannot exist with a political party that spent 12 years spending like drunken sailors, working behind the scenes to destroy a President and a military run by a man who takes it upon himself to speak to a foreign country that he will not follow the orders of a President.
