Ok humor me for a few as I've not had a male puppy this young since I was a kid and then I wasn't responsible for housebreaking. #1 this puppy pees like there's no tomorrow. I'm talking like every 15-20 minutes. I'm VERY proactive in taking him out but once in a while he starts squatting before I can. He'll stop mid-stream and finish outside. He's about 3 months old judging on his teeth. He's lost two of the bottom front but his canines and all the rest are still baby teeth. Is peeing that much normal for a male puppy of that age. I don't remember girl dog EVER going that much, maybe once an hour. #2 I think it may be behavioral or that he may have been smacked around and this is the reason for the constant peeing. It seems as if when he does do it inside that it's just a little squirt, enough to relieve pressure at the moment. When I take him out when he hasn't been caught in the act he lets it rip and empties his bladder. I've noticed that he's fairly hand-shy, especially when he's been caught and I'm trying to get his leash on to take him out. Is the theory on relieving pressure feasible?

He was vet checked right before I got him and given his first distemper shot and given a clean bill of health. He'll go back in a couple weeks for the next set of shots.

They pee constantly. Plus he's a bigger pup, not a baby.

Relieving pressure? No, he knows he's bad and so he stops when he's caught. Most puppies will. I always would say "Ah!" or "No!" and they would immediately stop..girl or boy...and finish up outside.

Pit Bull. :yay: Elaine wants to come give him a big kiss!

Did you see the thing on the news yesterday about dog fighting? So sad. I may not care for pit bulls, but that's just wrong. Poor babies.

Mily was a little older when I got her. She had her canines. I don't remember her being that bad! I know he can hold it. He gets crated at night and doesn't wake up until about 6:30. Little crap head....

What?!
When I first got Roxy she peed that often :jameo: Every time I would catch her in the act, outside we went. I would always praise her for finishing up her business outside. I lucked out and she was fully house trained in like 2 wks.

I did see it. :barf: I give you and Vrai a hard time but I didn't like them either until I had one and my first was a mix with maybe lab or GS.

He's getting it fairly quickly and usually goes right by the landing. I'm like :jameo: though because 3 more inches and he'd be in the foyer on the vinyl floor opposed to the carpet.

Are you trying puppy pads?

No, the vet that I worked for forever ago was against them. Something about not wanting to teach them that it's ok to pee anywhere in the house. I've never used them with any of my dogs and they've all housebroken pretty easily. This one I've just never seen anything pee so often. You can set a watch to when he craps but peeing is a whole different story.

Taco never stopped going potty when caught. He would go a few times an hour, as well.

Cody was the same damn way. He only peed in his crate a couple times, and those were the first few nights. Otherwise he held it all night, but peed every thirty minutes (often in the house :ohwell:) during the day. I just had to take him out every thirty minutes until he figured out that he was supposed to potty outside (reinforced with good potty and lots of hugs when he was outside...I'm sure my neighbors thought I was nuts). He hasn't had an accident in well over a year, and he got better at holding his bladder. Oh, and for about six months, I never let him out of my sight. It was obvious when he had to pee, so I'd just scoot him outside when he was pacing.

You could always try a litter box for "accidents" while keeping up your routine to take him outside. Though, I tried the litter box w/Taco and it didn't work one bit.

When we were training Neo, I know he is a much smaller dog, we used a combo of puppy pads and limiting the amount of water he had access to when we were not there.

Fortunately, Pork Chop was already housebroken when we adopted him from the shelter.

This one while not involved in play with Mily always has his nose to the ground. He tries to eat everything so I don't know if he's sniffing out something that smells like possible food or a place to pee. If he heads towards the door with his nose down it's right outside. I don't let him out of my sight either so it's fairly under control. I was just concerned with the frequency. I guess he's just a peeing machine. Thank God my ma has a carpet shampooer!

Do you miss your hardwood floors now? Would be much easier to clean up, that's for sure!!

I miss them twice a week when I'm vacuuming, and when I'm cleaning out the vacuum canister. The stuff that was UNDER the furniture was still frightening especially since I moved it out like once a month and cleaned under it.

At his age I'd just take him out very frequently (set him up for success), so that he doesn't have the opportunity to have an accident. Once he gets the hang of going outside, he'll start letting you know (Cody paces a little bit, walks to the door, then comes over and looks at you. Pace, door, touch base, repeat until we let him out ). It took him a few months to get the hang of it...I want to say he was right at six months old. He was always just too worried about playing to be bothered with deciding when he needed to go out. That was my job, apparently.
