The Rider's Wave

Ok, I know I'm really dating myself here, BUT....

for anyone that rode back in the 70s and 80s, do you remember what the standard "wave" was between bikers? The ol' left-arm out, right angle up, closed fist "power to the people" salute? Well, I was riding across the TJ bridge, and I actually passed a guy who gave me that wave. I did a double-take, caught me completely by surprise.

Anyone else have the pleasure of passing this guy??

I've done it. Today there are so many different waves I'm not sure what's going on. Some wave high, some wave shallow (palm still on the grip and only fingers up, which I sometimes can't even see), some point straight to the ground and some just nod their head. I use 2 waves. For Harley's & other American bikes, I use my left hand at a 45 degree angle to the ground and for "all other bikes" I just raise my hand (palm forward) slightly above the left hand grip. I usually wait for them to wave first. Don't know why, I just do. No disrespect intended.

Yeah, that lost a lot of popularity with bikers after the 68 olympics.
