The Sad Reality - FOSTER HOMES NEEDED

I got a call last night on my way home from work, the shelter calling me about an owner surrender, about 1 yr old, lab mix. No manners, never been trained, but oh so sweet and shy.

This dog was freaking out being there and he wasn't even in with the general public, if they didn't get a rescue to take him, then he was to be euthanized last night. Why? For his own mental health, they didn't feel that he would handle being put in with the other dogs.

THAT is the sad reality. The shelter does the best they can do and trys to make decisions that you and I hope to never have to make. As it was, it broke my heart to say I couldn't help. I'm FULL to the brim w/foster dogs and don't have the time in the day or the space to take in even one more.

I'm pretty sure the dog was probably euthanized last night, lab rescue won't take him because he's a mix, and most of the other rescues are full as well. The shelter does stop adopting over Christmas to try to avoid people getting dogs/cats as Christmas presents, which means rescue really needs to help.

This is where we need foster homes, my group as well as the other groups involved in rescue, we are limited on how many we can help if we have no place to put them.

You might be thinking about helping, but think that the holidays are too busy and not a good time.... Well, it's not a good time for the animals either.

They are being turned in for the same reasons... not a good time to have an ill behaved dog during Christmas, they will knock down the tree, they will tear up a package, they will jump on the guests.... Guess what? This ill-behaved dog is that way because YOU (supposedly loving owner) failed them.

If you can foster, even ONE dog, that is one life that will be saved. Many loving, sweet and adoptable dogs are dying at area shelters because people don't think they have the time.

:frown: How sad.

Husband won the right to get a dog next year now that we have adopted another rescue kitty. We'll be certain to get one brought into the shelter or rescue.

Hmmmmm, Clyde keeps telling me that he wants his own dog since mine listen to me better than him... I LOVE #3 and #4.....

Hey K,

I was looking on the local shelter site and it has a cute little dog but mentions it's for rescue only. Do you know why it might be labeled like that?

Do you know which one I'm talking about? Poor thing looks scared but she looks to be the perfect size dog that I'm looking for as a companion to my 5lb dog.

I'm on hold... it was pretty obvious...

They said it's very scared and needs some one on one work to build it's confidence up.

(I'm away from my computer for awhile, if you need help w/this dog please contact softballcrazy)

I want the brown and white dog in the middle, what kind of dog is that?
Thats Sunshine...she's a pit mix, but she doesn't look like alot of pits I've seen - she doesn't have the jaws, isn't as heavily muscled in the rear end. She might be mixed w/ a hound or lab maybe. Sunshine is an extremely sweet, cute, petite puppy right now. Very loveable, has been around my kid - he walked her w/ no problems.
