Oh, this is that t.v. producer turned writer/marketing genius that says our lives are based on the laws of attraction. And bad things happen to us because we attract them  Hurricanes hit certain areas because there has been too many negative thoughts

and let's not forget this gem of Ms. Psychobabble...Eating too much food doesn't make you fat, thinking it does is what makes you fat :killingme

Nothing wrong with the power of positive thinking but this writer is

I truly beleive the theory completely! Lets make a deal, just for shiats and giggles. We both give it a try for 30 days and come back and talk about it. If it's all craziness what do ya have to lose? Could be a really neat trial! :huggy:

I try to avoid anything and everything religious or New Age, from Christianity to Scientology, from charmstones to tarot cards. I find it all incredibly ridiculous. The Secret seems no different, so no interest here.

I love it when the flat landers get together and discuss their narrow minded views. :snacks:

If narrow-mindedness entails the inability to believe in supernatural (unproven) deities and the power to will success with positive thought, wouldn't another word for narrow-mindedness be... sanity?

It's a proven fact that humans use less than 10% of their mental capacity......yet, people in general think that they are all they can be.

Just a couple hundred years ago people were sure the world was flat.....just as you're sure that success can't be brought on by positive thought.

Ok... Dont you find any comfort, in the fact that you have control? I cannot stand the idea of being a puppet.

I'd much rather expand my mind and try something new, than stay in an unproductive rut.

But that's just me.

But I do feel in control. Putting 'faith' in science and what can proven gives me a feeling of control.

I start to a feel a loss of control (the feel of a puppet) when people start urging me to put my faith (and $$$) into supernaturally manifested thoughts or a deity in the sky with a pension for moral judgments (and I don't mean Santa Claus).

Well No one is asking for money... No one is judgeing you.

If you dont want to try a life of positive thinking that's ok! My belief in success will not necessarily be yours.

I do feel it is my duty to put the option out there. :huggy:

It's all right.

Sorry, but I just view religion (Old Testament to New Age) as a business preying on people.

...but, I suppose if it comforts and inspires people, then it's not all bad. I don't want to argue, so I'll just agree to disagree. I'm happy you're excited about this concept.

Jet, FYI the other one she mentioned was What the Bleep Do We Know.

I believe in what Kain is trying to convey here. Our minds have a tendency to take us down a pit of despair when we spend so much time obsessing over the negative instead of the positive. You have to say to yourself, what is my roll, what can I do to make this better, how can I change this aspect of my life and those things we can never rationalize just have to be something we accept as having some grand purpose eventually. I’ve read The Secret and I watched the DVD What the Bleep Do We Know, and all the main gist is positive thinking, but the books I found to be far more helpful is Deadly Emotions and a few things written by Beth Moore.

I do not believe that our negative thinking attracts tragedy on us like fires, floods, hurricanes, etc., but I do believe that often we put ourselves in situations that are not productive for us. You eat too much, you are going to get fat. You spend too much, you will end up in debt. If you feel like nothing is ever going to change, than it will never change. You have to do your part to make changes for the better and obtain a positive attitude towards that. And I do believe that our own negative emotions can cause us to feel physically sick.

But I am a Christian and look at those negative thinking patterns as the work of Satan. He wants you to miserable. If you let him, he will succeed and find far helpful and useful information written in the Bible, from the Bible and not some newly creative New Age thinking when it isn't. This pattern of thinking has always been there for us to choose.

That would be a popular myth, not a proven fact.

Mind Myths: Exploring Everyday Mysteries of the Mind [1999] :http://www.snopes.com/science/stats/10percent.asp

Brain imaging research techniques such as PET scans (positron emission tomography) and fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) clearly show that the vast majority of the brain does not lie fallow. Indeed, although certain minor functions may use only a small part of the brain at one time, any sufficiently complex set of activities or thought patterns will indeed use many parts of the brain. Just as people don't use all of their muscle groups at one time, they also don't use all of their brain at once. For any given activity, such as eating, watching television, making love, or reading Skeptical Inquirer, you may use a few specific parts of your brain. Over the course of a whole day, however, just about all of the brain is used at one time or another.

What's the diff between the secret, saying a prayer or casting a spell to the universe? NOTHING.

The secret is all the money she's making duping people on buying the book and dvd.

I have a friend that wanted to show it to a bunch of friends and I politely said "no thanks".
