The Sinful Ways of Santa Claus

A rant by the Webmaster of http://www.dcrtv.net:

Most will agree that Matt Drudge's website was primarily responsible for getting "The Reagans" removed from CBS's schedule. The TV movie took dramatic license and told "lies" about the former president and first lady. And now Drudge is leading a campaign against a new Disney movie about a Santa who has sex, drinks, and swears. Maybe if Drudge's latest campaign is as successful as his Reagan one was, we won't have the opportunity to see the Santa movie, either. Look, there's lots of crap that gets released - movies and TV. But, how about letting the people have the opportunity to see the stuff and decide for themselves whether it's any good? What if CBS had run the Reagan show on Sunday and nobody watched. Wouldn't that have been a more effective rebuke on the "liberal media" than to have it banned from the airwaves? Hey, Matt, your website is a fun read. But, please don't turn into the "top cop" in the right's "war on Hollywood." Put down the plastic badge and toy handcuffs and go back to your keyboard.....

I don't understand stuff like this. All Drudge did was report the story and make the public aware of what was going on. Conservatives took up the gauntlet and got the Reagan thing changed - not Drudge.

Now he's reporting what the Santa movie contains. How is that a "campaign"?

But, how about letting the people have the opportunity to see the stuff and decide for themselves whether it's any good?
That's retarded. What about movie reviewers? Is that a "campaign" too?

I don't read Drudge, so I don't know if he is actually calling for the Santa movie to be banned. I would agree that it's not a good idea to show that kind of movie to kids. Without knowing more about the movie, my guess that it's for adults who can appreciate irreverent humor. I hope it's being done in good taste. In the words of Rev. Billy C. Wirtz, "Sacred cows make good burgers if know what temperature to grill them."

You have a good point about reviewers. I've never read a review which called for the banning of a movie, except maybe Gigli.

I'm not seeing a call to arms here, just a description of the movie.

Sunday's Post Magazine had a great story about PG-13 movies and how movie companies are pushing the envelope in regards to what's appropriate for a 13 year old to see and hear. Pretty interesting stuff.

Bet this Santa movie will be a PG-13. Any takers?

Agreed. I don't have a problem with violence, unless it's some torture or rape thing. But these movies just go overboard on what they think young kids are mature enough to see and process.

It's a constant battle in our house. The girls want to see some inappropriate movie, I say no, they whine that all their friends have seen it. They go turn on MTV, I say turn that crap off, they whine that all their friends get to watch it. That's one of the reasons I don't watch a lot of TV or go to a lot of movies - they're making my life more difficult so I don't want to give them any of my money. :ohwell:
