The tech behind Battle: Los Angeles

So, rented it last night, and maybe sadly, recognized where some of the aliens tech ideas sprang from:) The drones thrusted flight? From Lockheeds MKV, or Multiple Kill Vehicle. Meant to do fast moves in orbit to intercept targets like satellites or missiles. What you see here isnt tethered, all straight thrust.

The missile firing robot thing towards the end? Yep, looks a lot like "dogbot", a machine developed to be a sort or robotic pack mule.Imagine a sepc ops tem needs to carry enough supplies for a few months.......

but in the end it was still a crummy movie with a very thin plotline and poor character development.

Yeah, not as good as I had hoped. Boy was asking why LA, what is so important about LA that its the line in the sand? Also, if you want water, WTH not land in the middle of the Pacific and take it? Hell, just ask. We are concerned with rising ocean levels anyway, drop it a few meters, and we are cool.

Here, here. A movie doesn't have to be sophisticated to be good. Sometimes you want eye candy and some downtime for the cereberal cortex. That's why I like Transformers, Skyline and anything with Jason Statham.

That statement says it all. If you will defend Skyline then you will defend anything, no matter how bad. Graphics and explosions are all well and good but without a good story to back it up you have nothing.

Point being.... sometimes all you want are graphics and explosions. When I kick back to watch a movie like Skyline or Battle: Los Angeles, I'm looking forward to laying back, cramming some popcorn into my yap and watching stuff get blowed up real good, and get covered in electric-blue glow-in-the-dark slime.

Why?

Cause it's fun.

Then there are other times when I like to follow the intrigue of a DaVinci Code or a Harold and Maude.

Variety and moods. They come in all flavors. About the only thing that would turn me off is if a movie is trying to be something its not. I don't like pretentiousness.

Flip it for me, District 9 decent, Skyline bizzare, if it wasn't for the SFX, I would have been p.o.ed I spent money to rent Skyline (well I have netflix, wasted a choice and waiting for it to arrive).

MegaPython vs Gatoroid, starring Debbie Gibson and Tiffany.:killingme ROTFLMAO, they went totally camp. They were quoting lines from their songs in the dialogue between them.

And the big finally, they bring in a helicopter to rescue them, and it keeps cutting between shots of a jet ranger, UH-1/Bell 214 and a CH-53E. And the funniest of all, as tiffany climbed up the rope ladder and the Helicopter just didn't have the power to lift her, as the giant gators jumped up and snapped at her, they were cutting to scenes of CH-53E hovering over her:killingme A super stallion didn't have the power to lift Tiffany.:killingme

Wow

3 Days of Condor ........ where the non dentist wants to remove you teeth
Wasn't that Marathon man, with the Dental Torture?

3 Days of the Condor was Robert Redford that was a CIA analyst, that had his whole section wiped out for a government cover-up and he went on the run to outsmart everyone and see justice done. The plots so complicated, you don't fully get it until you've watched it a 2nd or 3rd time.

Redford may be a leftist, communist loving, idiot, but he's been lucky enough (or should I say handsome enough) to get to be a couple of good movies.

That's the thing about actors, they achieve success for everything but their brains, and then they think it is their brains that make them special.

Just shut-up and smile for the camera, jeeez:bigwhoop:

A little known sci fi movie, I enjoyed, but might NOT be up most people's alley, Sunshine, 2007.

Its near Science Fiction, in the not to distant future, something goes wrong with the sun and it dying, and there is a space mission to kick start the sun back up. Lots of good SFX and intriguing science, their is a psychological sub-plot about how their is something instinctual with the sun and human psychology, combined with the stress of deep space, creates a huge crisis, especially as they discover the ship of the mysterious failed mission before them.

NO high tech battles, but they are going to the sun, the intense radiation creates scenarios where there is pretty exciting SFX.

It was made by the same folks as 28-days, and you can see some of the cross-over.

Any movie with PHROGs in it has to be a great movie.
Same with SuperStallions, isn't MegaPython vs Gatoroid a perfect example. The Super Stallion that had a problem lifting Tiffany.:killingme

Oh, and "Under Siege" Dan Dye briefing the big take down, Seal Team 6 will be inserted with a flight CH-53E Super Stallions, then cut to the footage of a PHROG flying in the night.:killingme

Check out "Moon" if you want to watch aa awesome Sci-Fi psychological thriller. The only person in the entire movie is Sam Rockwell.

Darwin was right
Instead of Battle: Los Angeles try watching Battle of Los Angeles. It is such a low rent movie that in once scene that is supposed to be inside the cockpit of an F-16, the pilot is actually flying the aircraft with a vacuum cleaner handle. It's no problem seeing where the technology ideas for this movie came from - Dyson, Electrolux and Oreck.:killingme
