I don't think the two-party system is in decline - the parties are just reinventing themselves. And I fail to see how Howard Dean is really a "third-party candidate"? He's a Democrat through and through, as far as I can tell.
The author of this piece assumes that people aren't as lazy as they are. Most are content to just vote for whoever's got the D or R after their name. They're not going to actually go out searching for an alternative.
Name one other candidate for President other than George Bush and the various Democrats that are running? Ralph Nader says he'll throw his hat in the ring (if the Democrats don't assassinate him first
) but I'll bet most people can't name a single non-Democrat or Republican who ran in 2000.
The Internet is fine but TV is still where it's at in terms of building name recognition.
