I'm watching MSNBC and they're doing "man on the streets" about how bad the economy is and how people are suffering. What's interesting is that my business revenue is derived from the very first thing business owners cut when times are tough - advertising. And we've done much better this year than last. Not only that, but the businesses I work with are all doing well, too (obviously, or they'd have cut their advertising).

How can this be?

So my question is: are you doing better, worse or the same financially, compared to last year?

Doing Better this year, but I don't think it has anything to do with the economy. Got a better job, daughters college tuition is not draining me anymore, and any financial burden incured by the wicked witch (the X) have been taken care of. Finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. H@ll, I'm finally seeing the dayum tunnel.

A modest increase in income coupled with a huge increase in the cost of necessary goods, specifically gas and food. I'd say overall, worse.

If you asked me a month ago, I would have said he!! yeah I'm doing better. But in the last few weeks, we have shelled out nearly $3,000.00 for appraisal, credit report, down payment, etc. etc. So, I'm not feeling the love right now.

But I will say that more people own homes today than they did before the Bush years. As a matter of fact, for every ill report on the economy, you see one that shows things improving. Most of the IT professionals placed out of work after Sept. 11th, ending up going back to class and earning a Real Estate license, and even now the Real Estate market is screaming for more and more agents. I’m sure over the next few years, the market on homes will adjust, interest rates will rise again, but I sure hope it is a slow process and that salaries begin to rise to match the current market.
