The Wind Friday morning

was just F-ing great up here in Davidsonville.

I came home in the dark friday night as I usally do, and just went about my business then to bed

then saturday morning I go out side for my morning smoke, and on the way in I look at the roof and think,, wow,, the skylight is clean,,,,

then I look again and think,, wow,, look the skylight is broken.

so then I look around the roof and discover that a tree was blown over on the house friday, and I lost the outside glass of the skylight in my living room, It broke the wood around the skylight in my bathroom and crushed the skylight vent on that one.
it also put a branch through the roof and into the attic......

Life has sucked this weekend..

The damage is enough that MR Nationwide is coming tomorrow morning to check out the cost.

so far I have spent money on two of my workers to come over and clear about 40 foot of tree and debris from the roof, do a temp type patch over the hole where the branch went through and cover the skylight with plastic.

oh, the good part is that my home was built in 1931, and they used 2x8 oak to frame the roof.... the trusses held tight with no damage. The 1 inch boat lap that they used to cover the trusses held all except in the area that the branch broke through, and where the brunt of force hit around the bathroom skylight.

on a new home, it might have taken out the whole roof.

the trunk was about 13 inches where it broke off and hit the house.

so I guess, in all of the aggrivation, I should be glad that it was not greater damage.

It happened friday while we were gone, and I did not notice the damage until saturday morning.

Im sure that it would have woke me up if it would have been during the night.

Thank god for the sturdy structure!!! We still have a toaster thats several decades old, that has outlasted the lifespan of four or five toasters and still going strong :yay: Funny how years ago quality was considered before quantity. Now its the other way around...what a shame :ohwell:

Good luck with the repairs. Let us know how it goes :huggy:
