THEATER CANCELS SHOWINGS OF MAJOR HOLLYWOOD HITS TO ACCOMMODATE MASSIVE CROWDS FLOCKING TO SEE ‘LONE SURVIVOR’

A Texas movie theater cancelled showings of several box office hits to accommodate massive demand for “Lone Survivor” Saturday.

Cancelled movies at the 14-secreen multiplex include blockbusters “Wolf of Wall Street” and “Anchorman 2,” among multiple other films.

“Lone Survivor,” which is based off of the bestselling book by Marcus Luttrell, tells the incredible true story of four Navy SEALs ambushed by enemy forces while on a covert mission in Afghanistan.

The movie is projected to earn up to $38 million, based off box office scores from Friday, according to Variety. Estimates have reportedly doubled over the past 24 hours as a good word of mouth turns out huge crowds to theaters.

That's because Marcus Luttrell is from Houston, Texas.

Excellent movie. Very compelling. Difficult to watch, but a story which should be told. :yay:

Isnt this a "major Hollywood hit" itself? No knock on the story, or the men who it's about, but the title of the article is a bit misleading, I think.

it has turned into one .....

the point is 'other' movies have been canceled to play this .....

sure theaters have scheduled in advance a movie expected do be popular on multiple screens in the past [currently even], but unless it happens more than reported, I think his unique

when have you seen at a theater a posting like the pic in the story .... it looks like THAT Theater canceled most everything else playing

Not disputing that it's an unusual event, but I hate to see deceptive wording used anywhere. It it was destined to be a hit, given the story and the treatment. One only had to see the street level and media response to the book to know that.

This movie is every bit as Hollywood as any of those others. It didnt start as some idie project shot in the dead of night shot with DLSRs. It was planned to b a blockbuster.
