When did Jayne host "Solid Gold"? The original host was Dionne Warwick, followed by the Fifth Dimension's Marilyn McCoo. The show had moments of unintentional hilarity. One time the opening act was the Vapors performing "Turning Japanese." Halfway into the song, Dionne did her opening spiel, then turned to the band and said, "Go on and turn Japanese." She probably had no clue as to what the lyrics are about. (If Cyndi Lauper was on that same night singing "She Bop", it could have been a theme show.)
