There's a famous game between two chess grandmasters, Aron Nimzowitsch and Friedrich Samisch where Nimzowitsch loses and in a tantrum, STANDS ON THE TABLE and shouts "That I must LOSE to this IDIOT!".
So how - did he lose to an idiot? Hubris? Overconfidence? Carelessness? (Cheating?)
The obvious answer is this - Samisch was NOT an idiot. He was a great grandmaster. Nimzowitsch could only see what let himself see.

They come up with all these reasons, some of them self-introspective and some of them good - but in the end - it's because their opponent was an idiot and there's NO reason except that he is evil or inferior or somehow cheated (although it is actually impossible to cheat in chess).
All I saw on social media and leftie TV was - evil has won. America was duped by the forces of evil.
Oh the best one was that Trump won by exploiting ignorance and FEAR. This from the side that - I can't EVEN list all of the made up stories and distortions from "bloodbath" and "very fine people" to a firing squad for Cheney - it's endless - and the fearmongering that if Trump wins, it's the end of democracy. Yeah, the REPUBLICANS majored in FEAR.

Its odd because the folks I do know that support Trump are not fearful people. Coworker tells me yesterday that his wife had to stay home, she was so emotionally done after the news. And he went on that anyone who has daughters had to vote against him since there will be a national abortion ban soon. When I pointed out that Trump has said repeatedly that he will refuse to sign one, he said "OMG, that means NOTHING, he's lying, of course, that's all he does is LIE"
This in the office, an open team space. And his part was done with full hand throwing histrionics. So I said we'll just have to wait and see. And later discussion that he and his wife might be looking for other countries to live in. Yet we are the ones in fear?
There maybe a case to be made for the internment camps after all.
If for no other reason than to get them all on anti-anxiety and anti-depressant medications.

I know a few like that - mostly good people, but politics gets them all off.I've never bothered with any of them.
One of my PMs is a committed Democrat.
Whenever he went on a rant, I just said "OK, that's enough stupid for the morning!" and walked away.
Not worth engaging. He's one of the "Fine People" "Dictator On Day One" "Bloodbath" types and no urging of him to watch the ACTUAL clip of Trump will convince him to do so.
My older sister is that way, about religion. You just don't breach the subject. It's a trigger and her remarks show, it's just anger and no knowledge or investigation.
May as well spay and neuter while they're there. No more worries about abortion.
