I went back to see what all the friends in agreement are saying to see if there were better explanations.
There were! Apparently, we are going into the scariest of unchartered waters, because WHEN they get preggers AND have life threatening complications, AND are (medically?) recommended to abort the baby, then they're going to be forced to carry the baby when the best thing to do would have been to abort it.
I'm glad I went back to see if I could understand any better!!
