Think about our military

I got to Andrews this morning for work and it took all of but a split second to realize the guy at the gate had been there all night. It was pretty cold out. This is on every military base all over the world; our troops standing their post diligently doing their work, serving this country and YOU. Some of them are outside freezing, and others are indoors watching and listening……………. and protecting. Some will likely be patrolling in some God-forsaken situation dodging bullets. They will be doing this everywhere tomorrow – Christmas Day – while their families are safe at home hoping they get the best Christmas present they could receive – a safe loved one.

I hope you good folks get a chance to reflect on these great men and women that don’t give it a second thought to giving up their holidays for their country. While you’re warm in your homes with your family opening your gifts, eating good food, and feeling that joy, think about that guy freezing somewhere, or that woman running patrol in the desert, or that analyst watching for the next threat to this country. Thank them when you safely go to bed that they are still out there, every single day and night, even on Christmas.

They got a pretty good group of people working the gate at Andrews. Always greet everyone nicely and usually have something positive to say. I usually see the same faces every morning on my way into work.

I spent many years on the Andrews flightline and can appreciate the temperature extremes there. Sometimes its easy to forget those that work at all the other locations on base that are in just as "uncomfortable" situations.

I spent 20 years in the USAF, some of which were as a Security Police Augmenter in Louisiana & Upper Heyford, UK. My hat is off to ALL who serve in whatever capacity, WHEREVER they may be~
