Recent research shows that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated with germs and bacteria and than public toilets.
As soda cans are stored in warehouses for long periods before arriving at your home, they come in contact with many potentially dangerous substances. One of the most toxic substances includes rat urine, which, when ingested can develop a bacterial disease called Leptospirosis, a bacterial disease that can cause kidney damage, meningitis, liver failure, respiratory distress, and sometimes death.

Soda can tops are not typically cleaned between the warehouse and your home. Be sure that when you bring home your next case of soda, you thoroughly wash with warm soap and water the tops of all soda cans before putting them in to your mouth or pouring your soda into a glass.

I am sure soda cans are not the only canned beverage affected by this.

I've never thought about what happens in the warehouse with regard to soda cans. But I HAVE thought about nasty booger pickers running their gross fingers all over the cans at the store. I typically wipe down the top of the can before I open the soda, when I can't avoid canned sodas period.

Those grab bins of bagels and donuts are gross, too. I never buy them. :dead:

When I worked in a warehouse as a youngster, it was typical for us to walk across the cans on the pallets. I religiously wipe mine if I'm forced to drink from a can.....

I buy soda cans by the case, so they'e always enclosed in paper. However, I religiously wipe the tops of soda cans before I drink them. Now I know why.

:faint: I never even thought about it. On the bright side I've been drinking can soda's for years though and haven't died yet. Maybe I've already ingested so many of the germs I am now immune. :bawl:

I worked in a beer warehouse, and can say the same thing.

Best to wipe down that 10oz before you drink it.
