Thinking of changing to AT&T

I'm thinking of changing my wireless provider for Verizon to AT&T. What's coverage AT&T like in St Mary's County? Any good/bad experiences? Thanks.

In general not as good as Verizon, but I have no real problems with it. Some places it is better than verizon, in my building at work the Verizon customers have to go outside to get a signal but I can use my phone inside.

That used to be associated with how close you were to cell towers.

I live in Tall Timbers which is a Verizon Wireless black hole for service. My neighbor has AT&T and they have great service to the point they cancelled their land line.

I thought the new tower in Piney Point was a Verizon tower but our service didn't get any better. Is there a thing as being too close to a tower?

No. Part of the negotiation protocol between the tower and your phone is to determine required transmitter power levels. That's why your battery drains far more quickly in a low or no cell service area, the phone is increasing the power to the transmitter and using more battery.

My conversations with friends indicates that while Verizon used to be the best in this area, the others have caught up considerably in the past couple years.

Still with Verizon, but I'm about a contract away from ditching them.
