I was best friends with Nancy in 9th through 11th grade until she moved out of town and we lost touch. I got to thinking about her recently because I saw something about "Grease" and remembered how we played that album until it wore out. So I decided to track her down. Problem? She is certainly married by now and doesn't have her same last name. So I did a search for her parents, found her dad's obituary where she is named as a "survived by", did a Facebook search, and boom there she was.

So this evening I got to have a wonderful conversation with someone I was once quite close with but hadn't seen or spoken to in 40+ years. The best part is that she's still her and I'm still me, so we reconnected immediately with no awkwardness.

:yahoo:

So thank you, Facebook, for helping me find my friend after all these years!

So thank you, Facebook, for helping me find my friend after all these years!

I've done things like that - in fact, one was a cousin on my father's side I hadn't heard from - or knew where she was - in decades. In another, my family had a foster brother when we were small children, and through A LOT of investigating and phone calls - I found him, but it was my sister who had the nerve to CALL. Since then, he's been with us many times, holidays and at family gatherings, including my parent's passing. I can't say it's as though he never left, but he's as much a part of our family NOW as he ever was.

SADLY - very often these searches lead me to find out they have passed. I was thinking fondly of an old friend I admired, and when I looked him up, I learned he had died just weeks before. I missed my chance.
